If the 80s are up for derision, I'd think Duran Duran would merit that response. Not to mention their second tier billing.
I've never followed the Coachella lineup that closely but isnt this a little lighter than normal? It's weird how some bands have lower billing than others.
Hopefully B.A.D. announces that they're gonna play the first album in its entirety, then it becomes worth it.
Love him or hate him, you have to be intrigued as to what Kanye is going to attempt to pull off on Sunday night.
Since he and Jay-Z have a new collaberation album coming out soon I wouldn't be surprised if Jay showed up at some point.
Seeing what Kanye will do is the only interesting thing. There are a few other good things scattered around like Titus Andronicus who put on a great show same as Lightning Bolt. Wire is also there even though I've seen them and was disappointed. Not a great show and they only played a few songs off their first 3 classic albums. They just released a new album so I imagine they'll be playing more fro that as well. They also keep repeating the same bands. I went in 2005 and see a ton of the same names. Aquabats, Flogging Molly, Kings of Leon, Jimmy Eat World, etc...? Crap. Just talked to my buddies and they'll be playing 2012 instead. Much better cause I don't have to go this year.
Personally I just need to find out if Bernard Butler or Richard Oakes is playing for London Suede. If it's the former and they're not announcing a tour outside of playing Coachella then I might be compelled to go. But the lineup isn't bad. The best thing about Coachella imo is seeing bands who really weren't meant for playing giant festivals play a giant festival. I'd be excited for Yacht, Best Coast, Ariel Pink, etc. A lot of my friends treat Coachella like their Christmas parties. Doesn't matter who's playing, they'll all camp out the whole time and enjoy it. This would only be my 3rd Coachella if I go, and if I did it would probably be just as much to hang out as to see actual music. That makes me feel old.
Have you seen the reviews of Ariel Pink's recent shows in NYC? He was a disaster. Super wasted and all he did was sing over back tracks of his songs played by some DJ. Everyone was furious. Then he just walked out of the venue in the middle of a song and everyone thought he would return but he never did. I like his last record but he seems to be a disaster right now.
The headliners are very weak. The rest is strong as usual, though a bit one-sided, if you ask me. Just for funsies, here's Rock am Ring, Roskilde and Glastonbury from last year:
Isn't that very subjective? I like Primavera and would like to go, but it's a bit too soft for me for the price, not enough variety, not enough stormguitars ;-)
