Can the name still be used for when/if Sydney gets another team in the future? That's unfortunate though. As a lover of the game in general,I was eagerly anticipating Sydner Rovers arrival. This isn't good for the sport and for the Hyundai A-League.I feel sorry for the people of Sydney who were ready to get behind this team.At least, the FFA will learn for this and will be extra careful next time around for expansion teams. Anyone knows when will another team get in the league?
Don't know why you'd recycle it really. Not that great a name. As for when: 2012-13 season at the earliest.
No.. A-League shot itself in the foot choosing an expansion franchise that was barely capable of submitting a bid, much less actually getting its act together to get an actual team off the ground. There were a number of other bids, including a few in Sydney, that were in better position than the Rovers were and they were passed over.
omg, so does this mean the other bids have a chance now? Maybe Sydney FC should relocate west, the eastern suburbs people dont get off their arse for anything.
Considering the performance of the last three expansions, one would hope the A-League isn't seriously considering any expansions right now.. They need to get the current clubs in order before adding more, IMHO. As for relocating Sydney FC...When they aren't crashing and burning every time they play they draw well for A-league. This is the first season they haven't been in the top three...
yeah thats the sydney public for you, they will only turn up in any numbers if your winning, unfortunately its typical of the selfish attitude of the average sydneysider in everything he or she does, getting behind their team in hard times never even enters their comfort loving heads. Of course this is no reflection on the 6000 to 8000 core who turn up no matter what, particularly the Cove.
I don't think most of Sydney FC's crowds come from the east anyway... personally i hail from the shire and though its a big ask to get to every match, iv'e been to at least half the games this year... Most people I've chatted to at games aren't from the east either. more often inner west/south west ie kogarah which is almost as close.
It's a blessing in disguise for Sydney FC that the Western Sydney bid was (rightfully) scuttled before opening as another possible burden on the FFA.
well most of the east prefer either rugby league, Union or Aussie rules to go watch, not many like football surprisingly, Sydney FC would probably get better crowds if they moved to the inner west somewhere.
Somewhere where a nice cozy 20,000 stadium could be built, the atmosphere would be incredible. Save the SFS for finals games.
Hahah, I live there, genius, which is why I'm curious as to where you want to put this cozy little 20,000 seater.
Im sure they could find somehwhere, its not that hard to create something you know, grab some vacant land and turn it into a stadium.
