This Australian forum is too inactive, I don't think they even care about the game.

I think everyone is just waiting for the drama that occurs at every tournament we enter. So far so good, so its all unusually quiet.

Good to have a bit of friendly Korean banter to increase the traffic here. As mentioned above, Aussie fans aren't that excited about this tournament. Maybe it'll come later in the Tournament?

I think the S Korean style of a fast game is what Aust struggle with most, especially with our defence being so slow. Our physical style game won't really come into it with not a lot of grace given to that style by refs in Asia. On another day in Europe we might win this game. Whilst played in Asian conditions i think it will be a S Korean win, 2-1.

    is everybody on holidays?

Looking foward to this match, though we will struggle in many departments I feel. We have serious problems down the left with Carney and the slow central defence pairing mentioned earlier. I also feel in attack we are far too predictable: our passing game is too slow and inaccurate, even against India we were reverting to the "get it onto Cahills head" game.

Korea were great against Bahrain but their two goals certainly were slightly lucky, the first being a deflected shot, the second spilled by the keeper... They will have to be more clinical than that against us to beat Schwarzer...

    keeping positive- 2-1 Australia :)

I think we'll do well to draw this, and if we do I doubt it'll be scoreless either.

Highly doubt we'll have enough to come away with a win here. To be realistic a draw would be a good result for us but I'm completely expecting a repeat of our last friendly.

    3-1 to South Korea.

Carney could deliver in this game, he hasn't played alot so hes just not very consistent. Koreans will probably have to play narrow, because neil/sasa will deal with any cross from out wide.

When australia gets the ball i expect them to go very wide like against india (which was just practice for this match). Try to stretch korea as much as possible.

So can culina and jedinak deal with the korean attack? not sure.

I feel if Australia score first it could be game over.
However, I am tipping a 2 - nil at half time for Korea, with Australia pushing on in the 2nd half to equalise and make it 2 all. Holman just after half time and Emerton to score at the death. :D

All in all I hope it is a great showcase of the region to the rest of the world.
Dare I say classic match? ala Serbia v Australia or Japan v Australia in the last 2 world cups..... C'mon Roos!!

think the main reason that australians haven't really been jumping on the asian cup that much is because there has been a severe lack of media attention..for example i have alot of mates who aren't necessarily what you would call die hard football/soccer fans who do have some interest in the game and would attempt to watch the games but the fact of the matter is they didn't even know the india game was being played last monday morning..the only media outlets that have really seemed to care have been SBS, Fox Sports and Channel 10, which is a damn pity..though no doubt if we make the final all the newspapers and nightly news programmes will jump on the bandwagon..

Re: Australia vs s. Korea (jan 14)

It's such a shame, really. That's one of the reasons why many people don't want us to win the Asian Cup, simply because they think it would be an 'insult' for a country that doesn't care about football winning a tournament that many others seem to care more about. They always compare that to USA winning the FIFA World Cup, which is hypothetically similar in terms of how many people in the United States would care about that in comparison to those of more passionate nations that never stood the fighting chance of winning it. For that reason, I hope we change our attitude. One of the reasons why I think we lost the 2022 world cup bid, with exception to other blatantly aggravating reasons, is that we didn't show enough seriousness or care about it.

I really hope the media back home supports its players in Qatar. They're there for a good reason, and it would be a great shame to see them come away with winning, only to receive less attention than other sports athletes.

I should mention, however, that the Australian expatriate communities in Dubai and other parts of the Gulf are fully behind their team and write about them every day. It would be so nice if the Aussies back home could do the same someday. :)

Anyhow, Australia's experience should help us win tomorrow afternoon. But we shouldn't reveal all our game-plans and/or tactics against the Koreans tomorrow, since we still need to reserve a lot of things for the latter rounds. I wouldn't mind losing to South Korea in the group stages, if and only if it means we encounter them again in the knockout stages and defeat them.

    2-1 Korea

Both teams are good enough to take maximum points and either way it wouldn't be a huge shock.

We might struggle if we go down a goal early as we're not prolific goal scorers but I don't think we'll have a problem with any overt physicality, considering all of our opponents try to play physical against us already.

You would think a team like Ivory Coast would dominate the air against us as well in a pre-WC friendly but Drogba and company were handcuffed in a 2-0 win and Korea actually doing the scoring from a header on a set piece.

Looking forward to an exciting match, good luck.

What about the likes of Mustafa Amini, Kerem Bulut, Mathiew Leckie, do you think they have or haven't what it takes to make it to the National Team; I think Amini and Bulut are like the australian Gu ja cheol- ji dong won, but i may be wrong....

And what about the exotic ones like Tando Velaphi, Gol Gol Mehbratu, Steven Lustica, Kaz Patafta, Tahj Minniecon, Labinot Haliti, is any of them worth a try for the socceroos ?

Re: Australia vs s. Korea (jan 14)

Amini is going to lead the way at the U20 WC and if all goes well will be in our U23 group for the London Olympics, he's definately one for the future.

Bulut is on remand somewhere in the NSW Penal System after violating bail terms while awaiting trial for assault. He is utterly f---ed and likely will never play in green and gold again :(

Leckie, provided he comes back from injury at Adelaide could make the step up, like Amini.

Velaphi: nope, Gol Gol haven't seen much of, ditto Lustica, Patafta isn't a regular starter for Newcastle Jets, Haliti likewise has probably missed the boat.
