http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/jan/03/actor-pete-postlethwaite-dies A seriously underrated actor. R.I.P.
Coincidentally, I was just thinking the other day about a scene of his from Brassed Off and realizing with surprise that he'd also played Keyser Soze's consigliere at roughly the same time.
He was one of those supporting actors that instantly made any movie he was in better. I was always pleased to see him on screen. His role in The Constant Gardener was very memorable for me. I've never seen Brassed Off or In the Name of the Father, but it sounds like I need to get on that quick.
I just saw Inception last night, and while I thought the film itself was decent, I said to my wife that Postlethwaite seemed way under-used in it. Kind of weird seeing this news the very next day.
I came here looking for this thread. One of the finest character actors out there. Very versatile, but IMO his best roles were as a villain. I just saw him in "The Town" yesterday, but to me he'll always be Mr. Kobayashi. RIP Pete.
This really bummed me out when I logged on after work. Not many have garnered the moniker of being a favorite actor of mine but Pete Postlewaite was definitely one. Each role he played both big and small always came across as genuine and not forced like with some actors. I think I'll enjoy a scotch tonight and watch "In the name...." and enjoy one of his if not best roles. QEPD.
My wife and I were watching "The Town" last night and I was thinking that Pete really slimmed down for this role. I had no idea he was sick. He had a bit part in Alien 3, Baz Lurhmann's Romeo & Juliet and Juassic Park 2. It was never "blink and you'll" miss him, it's "damn. I forgot he was in that!" Rest Well Mr. Postlethwaite.
I've always liked him and he seemed underused. I thought he would make a great lead in some movies. As someone said before, as a supporting actor much like William H. Macy, he always made a movie better.
first role i can remember him was in last of the mohicans at least i believe that was before in the name of the father how many movies did he do with daniel day lewis?
They only did the two. I read an article with excerpts from Lewis in which he refers to Pos as one of his mentors and teachers. Apparently they were close.
