    Re: New GM

Its very upsetting to see other teams stock up on talent while just release players and sit idle. Didnt Jurgen say we would have a coach by Christmas? Is Earl our new GM now? I need answers. Goodness I wish we would get rid of Anselmi too

Didn't Jurgen say "hope" or "hopefully" by Christmas?

You aren't alone. We all need answers.

It's Ives, so it's a leak from Cochrane/MLSE covering up for Herr Klinsi's Christmas deadline.

Really, when has Ives ever scooped a TFC decision and why would Ives be working a TFC story on the 23rd (because MLSE wanted it in play)?
Ives was Mo's puppet, now Earl is pulling his strings, as per Anselmi!

More things change, the more they stay the same....

I'd rather they took their time and did it right rather than rushing it for the sake of appearances.

Re: The Next TFC General Manager Thread

What do you suppose are the odds that Jurgen spoke to Brennan, Dasovic, Cochrane, and The Big Man and actually decided that they were best suited to take care of business?

Just hypothetically for a moment, consider this sort of team:

    1) Cochrane runs the business side of managing the club.
    2) Brennan runs the soccer side of managing the club.
    3) Dasovic is head coach and works closely with Brennan in getting and retaining players
    4) Dichio is assistant coach and acts as a liaison for players and management along with the captain (De Ro)

That doesn't sound too bad to me. I might be alone in this, but I'd give this set up a shot. Thoughts?

Re: The Next TFC General Manager Thread

    A) It would be another FAIL in a long line of TFC failures and a waste of money bringing in Jurgen in. But I cannot see that happening. Keeping the status quo for tfc won't happen. There will need to be a new face guiding the team.

    B) Dasovic? I can see Brennan and even Cochrane staying as much as I don't like to say that, but Dasovic doesn't have the neccesary experience and contacts to lead a big club like TFC. In terms of mls anyways. From what I hear it's going to be a situation where the coach will also be in charge of getting players. There are more experienced people then Dasovic.

Nothing against what you suggested, but it would be a step back for tfc in terms of direction if thats what happened. The status quo cannot remain status quo any longer.

Maybe joining TFC sooner than we think....

Plymouth Argyle coach Paul Mariner is to leave the club.

The Pilgrims' striking legend has asked the club if he can be released from his contract to follow up an opportunity elsewhere.
Mariner has been linked with the manager's job at Toronto FC.

Mariner was at New England Revolution in the USA and initially visited Plymouth in 2009 to add his support to the bid to host the 2018 World Cup, however, he struck up an excellent relationship with then manager Paul Sturrock and was offered the job to assist Sturrock at Mariner subsequently succeeded Sturrock when he was sacked in December 2009 but the former England striker failed to keep Argyle in the Championship and this season he was coaching assistant to new manager Peter Reid.

Mariner's departure, following John Carver's recent move to Sheffield United, leaves Reid's coaching staff very threadbare with just Adam Sadler assisting the manager.

The soap opera that is Plymouth Argyle rolls on and on.

Re: The Next TFC General Manager Thread

I've read several other articles on Mariner's leaving Plymouth and they all confirm that he's leaving because he has a specific opportunity, but none of them mention TFC. One of them suggests it's another job in England, otherwise nobody seems to have any specifics.

    Section 123
Aron Winter named TFC Manager and TD, Paul Mariner as Asst. Manager?

Several media outlets are reporting that TFC and Paul Mariner are close to concluding discussions that would see X English International, MLS NE assistant coach, Paul Mariner take over the reigns for 2011.

"Toronto FC may have found a new head coach.
Reports late Thursday suggested that Paul Mariner, a former assistant coach with the New England Revolution from 2004 to 2009, could be in line to take over for interim coach Nick Dasovic.
Mariner had been working with the English Championship club Plymouth Argyle before quitting on Thursday.
The British press has reported that Mariner, 57, was offered a three-year deal in North America. Toronto Sun"

I don't know much about Mariner as a coach, but the fact that he has MLS experience is a plus.

I think Mariner is a good candidate for the job, he does know the league and how it works which is good to have but shouldn't we have a GM in place so he can decide what coach would work with the players he wants to bring in?

Read the Revs boards - they're very high on Mariner. Compare to Goats' fans when Preki signed on or Energy Drinks fans laughing when Mo was brought on board. A new season of sanity in Toronto? Let's hope so.

I caught a little bit of John Molinaro on the FAN this morning. He seems to think that Mariner coaches similarly to Preki.

I've heard him compared to Carver too, probably because they both worked together at Argyle.

Punditry being what it is, I'll wait to see what he produces first.

Paul Mariner may not be Toronto FC's next head coach, but assistant coach. Could Steve Nicol be joining Mariner at TFC.

Tactically your saying of course. I wonder how he is in terms of his relationship with players. Hopefully he's nothing like Preki in that respect.

Maybe we should ask Revs supporters about that. They would know more about that, being that he was with them for so long.
