I was kind of interested in Chivas when I saw the article about the proposed ( but badly researched) article about building a stadium near LA Coliseum.

keep in mind that Chivas average attendance (and I'm basing this off the MLS website so it better be correct) is 14,575

While I don't think that LA Colisuem stadium will work out I thought of some other venues you could rent.
The only one I could find that seemed suitable for Chivas was Titan Stadium, a college venue but a big lavish one at that.
    Capacity: 10,000
    Pros for using the stadium:
-Rent I bet is cheaper than home Depot.
    - not used very hard, no football lines, football got cut from the university a while ago so college soccer in the fall is the only thing that you hopefully have to worry about on a permanent basis.
    - much more suitable for the attendance that Chivas brings in. would look better in a small packed stadium than a huge half empty one on tv.
    - natural grass

    Cons-
    - no boxes for rich people to sit in ;)
    - There isn't much room for expansion as there is a building/locker room by one end of the field and the other end is a steep bank,
    - expansion might be expensive to fit just an average attendance for Chivas game.
    - it would BE REALLY HARD to fit in people for the superclasico.

some things that I don't really know about:
    - parking spaces? that might be a problem.
    location good for the team?
    - Pali Blues will start using it as well but if Chivas moved in the Blues would be put into a second fiddle spot hopefully. actually most definitely would play second fiddle to Chivas, no doubt in my mind.
    - where do the people that wtahc Chivas come from? would they willing to move out to support the team in Fullerton?

a couple of pictures of the stadium:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Titan_Stad_A.jpg
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Titan_Stad_B.jpg
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Titanstadium-pano.jpg
notice the ends where the expansions would happen...

I noticed the nice back rest seats where colored either red or some kind of orange reddish as well...

add anything that I didn't know about.

I would love to move out of the HDC, it's very far from me. I would love it if they got the new proposed stadium it would be really great! What i think would be cool is if they use that in the meantime. It does look a little small though, maybe it is just how the pictures look. Fullerton is waaay closer to me than Carson. I'd be more than down!

I don't have any significant news to add here.... I feel it's very unlikely that CUSA would ever make Titan Stadium its home. We've played there before (most recenty a 2010 US Open Cup victory v Austin Aztex) and it's a nice place to visit, but it's not ever going to be home. The location is great, I'm a CSUF alum so I'd love it... but no.

Orange County also boasts the crappy old Santa Ana Bowl.... but again, no.

Will we ever move from the HDC? Who knows?

However, I am excited that USL will be coming to OC in 2011. The Los Angeles Blues (brother team to the Pali Blues womens club) are planning to play at least 7 home matches at CS Fullerton / Titan Stadium. They will also play at other (TBD) locations around SoCal in an effort to reach fans. I believe they already have 3 players signed, including Josh Tudela.

They did sign the tudela guy and he seems pretty high caliber....but LA? they face teams all from the east....Austin got relocated out to orlando so there isn't even one team close to them. In my view point, it's a good hearted plan but not a well thought out one at that. the costs will run them down in 2 to 3 years...but thats just my opinion.

you are assuming that Chivas will always have a small game attendance and you are forgetting that Chivas is one of the most popular teams in Mexico. I think that this team hasnt reached their full fan potential. I think Chivas USA can have as much if not maybe more fans then Galaxy or Red Bulls. Its a matter of time. Once this happens what do you expect we ? Move Again?

Yes, this. Also why would you (the O.P.) suggest they turn away upwards of 5000 fans? That makes zero sense to me.

I don't think Lugger was suggesting fans would get turned away.... Actually, a 10k seater might be just about perfect for us (most of the time). Remember that 14k is average attendance - which includes the full house we get only when the Gals are visiting.

Let's keep in mind that if we do not renew the HDC lease, one of the local college stadiums might be a good (temporary) next home until we get that stadium built. (unfortunately - getting stadiums built in SoCal doesn't happen anymore)

I always enjoy these threads - but it really doesn't matter where we play. I'll be there.

I did the math, without the Galaxy game (and excluding friendlies and USOC matches) Chivas' attendance for last year during the MLS regular season was... 13,882! Most games were in the 12-14k range, with most falling into the 14k area. So moving to a stadium with less then 15-20k would be foolish as they would be losing paying customers. I don't think ANY MLS team should be in a stadium with a 10K capacity long term. A season or two at the very most, maybe.

How many were freebies because demand is low because of all the open seats. lower capacity will drive demand up which means less comps. While we may have fewer in attendance, they may actually make more money. That on top of a far more attractive rental agreement makes this all make sense.
I would like to see a 15K seats stadium temporary it will need to have some kind of suites to keep the big dollar sponsors happy. We can always play our "big" games at a bigger stadium. Maybe use the Rosebowl as part of a doubleheader.

    I miss those doubleheaders

It would be kind of cool to watch a superclasico in the rose bowl....might have to pull a seattle sounders jig...that would be kind of cool but probably a hassle for just one game. but I think it would still look awesome to have a superclasico in the rose bowl.

You can't have Titan Stadium because LA Blues are using it. Plus that's not your target audience out there. You'd be better off going into LA.

I agree with you GG, and the sooner the better because I've been putting up with some of the HDC security staff and I am sick and tired of their mind games.

ELA College would be a good temporary solution until we build our own Stadium, if ever.

Still, pretty sure Orange County is Galaxy land.. you'd be better off in LA.

I always thought ELAC would be a good place for Chivas USA. Monterrey Park, East LA and San Gabriel valley, all easy access. It's been several years since I left LA but from I can remember, the minuses is the stadium itself is old, parking is terrible and I believe it still has the Astro turf from the 1984 olympics. But the stadium is centrally locacted in a good place.

AND THE TRAFFIC WOULD BE AWFUL!!!!

It's not so fun on a regular day - imagine driving with an additional 14,000!!! That has turned me off of going to any East LA Classics because I dont want to deal with 20,000 people.

Personally I would love it if that were to pass. I'm a stones throw away.

Isn't there a Train stop there now or near it? I haven't been down that way in some time. I tend to stay in the Whittier area.

    hmm.

of course all this is fantasy and we will stay in HDC until further notice.

I would to see the stadium built near the LA Coliseum. It would be a great location to expand the fan base for Chivas USA.

Your right, but it seems the ownership has the cash. So, here is the vision.

Some of us saw that rendering months before the story broke out. My point is that it'll take more money to secure the deal with the coloseum commison/a good concession/parking plan, and investors to follow up on the vision.

It would be pretty nice though you have to admit. It is fairly plausible, but does Chivas USA have enough fans to fill up a whole stadium? I ask this question as a fan that hasn't been to too many games. I think once the fan base really picks up a lot, is about the time we are gonna see this team really talk seriously about having it's own stadium.

If they built a 25,000 seat stadium near downtown, within a couple of years, our goats could be playing at a sellout almost every game.
Many people have stop attending the games, not because of lack of cash, but for the way they are treated by some "esteemed" HDC rent-a-cops.
