Frankly I was busy contemplating getting other players and Wolff was never on my mind. It didn’t register that he could be picked. I didn’t even think Wolff would be on our radar and didn’t put two and two together. Plus the added fact that I rarely post on here. I usually use it for entertainment purposes while at work. Shame indeed.
Joseph Ngwenya? Josh Wolff? The more crap I see coming from the front office, the happier I am that I decided to stop renewing my season tickets.
Am I the only person who wanted Ryan Cochrane? Seems to me he could have bolstered the backline and given White time to develop. Just me I guess.
Well...me, too, but I was a bit concerned about his injury history. And frankly, one of the things I really liked was how cheap he was even in Round One. NE probably got him in Round 2 for a gift certificate at Legal Sea Foods.
Might as well sign Gazza too for that purpose. And since he's never officially been in the league, we could probably get him as a discovery player and wouldn't have to mess around with all this re-entry nonsense.
qft. I assume we're still going to see DCU bring in a quality scoring threat and a center back. One of these should be addressed with a player ready to get minutes in Round 1 of the SuperDraft (pick #3), and I expect we'll see 2-3 other acquisitions. So they're not done yet. Let's save the sky-is-falling stuff until that point (at which point I'll likely join in, too ).
Oh, no ... not the "Is Josh Wolff Jewish?" controversy! I'm Jewish, so I get an opinion or three on this! I actually don't believe he is Jewish -- at least not strictly speaking. IIRC, his father is Jewish (or might be Jewish), but his mother is not. And since by tradition Jewish blood is conferred by the mother ... Yes, this has all been liberalized as of late in some Jewish circles, but strictly speaking ... That said, truth be told, I don't even know for certain if Wolff's father was Jewish. All I know is that this comes up with regularity and, anyway, Josh Wolff ain't no Jeff Agoos!
We also imagined they had a few players lined up last pre-season, too. It never happened. Instead, they ended by telling us "we're happy with the players we have."
Sorry, I don't believe that those quotes from December referred to Hernandez and Boskovic. I've seen nothing to suggest that.
After reading the quotes from Perkins about a less than professional atmosphere last year and then reading about an alleged punch-up between Q and Simpson, Olsen's first move has to be about creating a positive, professional climate at the club. He believes Wolff will help, and jeebus, the guy is miles faster than Allsop and has actual international experience (as opposed to Allsop's one game against Indonesia), so he is an addition. I look at this as valuable depth, both in ability and character for a very young team. Now, if PKO thinks Ngwenya and Wolff are the answers at forward, we will have problems, but those two will provide far more energy than Allsop and Moreno for a fraction of the price. In other words, this move makes sense as long as no one is claiming that adding Wolff is a game-changer. Finally, enough with the JPA infatuation. That tool Ives thought JPA was coveted here. Who really needs a 35 year old forward with a bad back? Last year he scored one goal after July. I like the guy, but he's done, just like GBS. Some guys just don't know when to take off the shirt and retire.
Disagree, Wouldnt be surprised if he explodes wtih service from beckham and donovan from the wings. Not to mention his ability to create stuff on his own. Schelotto too, had 1 good year left in him. Thats it though.
I will concede somewhat on the service from Beckham and Donovan with the caveat that Beckham is as old as JPA and is recovering from an Achilles tendon injury. However, on the JPA creates stuff on his own angle, I disagree strongly. Last year he played on a better than average RBNY team and he created shit for himself from July onwards. Why would he be better in LA a year later? Strikers don't age gracefully, they hit their sell-by date and curdle. I'm afraid JPA is yogurt, not cream at this point.
That is true about strikers.... but JPA is aging gracefully IMO. He didnt slow down as much as Mcbride did in his last years. I look at a guy like Palermo that although is basically in his last year, is still churning out goals with no speed, and just pure 'strikers' brain. He scores with his head and feet for the NT (during the chance maradona gave him) and Boca. All that is based purely on his experience and his ability to 'know' where to stand to recieve the perfect headers, or to get the easy tap ins. I think JPA has 1 good year left, maybe 1 more after that. Thats my opinion though, he didnt slow down or gain weight like moreno has, and still is very 'fit' dispite his age.
