Great article. I bet there are some pissed off Brits about Mondragon not playing in the Premier British League.
Why are Portland away jerseys the same as Toronto's home jerseys? Timbers at TFC should be a great one to watch
Just like Tottenham hosting Bolton when they play. Or any of the current MLS teams that have a white "away" jersey when they play away to the Galaxy or New York (or Vancouver this year). Shock of shocks, maybe they will just wear that green home jersey instead.
When they play at Toronto, Chicago, FC Dallas, CD Chivas or RSL, they'll use there green jersey's (alot of teams wear there primary jersey for there away games). Or maybe by time the season starts they'll have a third jersey.
You do realize that "away" kits are just secondary to be used when needed. Many times a team will use it's primary kit if there are no conflicts with the home teams primary kit. Also, come on... how many primary and secondary white kits are there in MLS?
I promise, I am not trying to make fun, but I just don't understand why some people can't grasp the idea of a "primary" jersey. Portland has a green kit as their "primary." That means they "primarily" wear that kit...unless their is some reason to wear their "secondary" kit, which is the Rose City red you mentioned. "Primary" comes from "prime" and means original or first. Does that make more sense? Don't think "home" and "away" for soccer kits because that is not how most of the soccer world (including MLS) works. Primary and Secondary (and 3rd) are how kits work in soccer. (And the main point of 3rds is to make a buttload of money for the club, since two well thought-out primary and secondary kits should mean a third kit is never needed. =)
Think about it this way: Home jersey = Primary jersey (will always be used, home or away) Away jersey = Secondary jersey (will be used when it clashes with the home teams jersey)

This was my first college soccer game I watched this year--did they stop play and take commercial breaks during other games too?
thats exactly what i was thinking.. Home and Away... also didnt realize Portland was the rose city... so the red 2nd jersey makes sense... i will now go back to minding my own business... ugh...
I noticed strange things they do during a college game, like unlimited subs and clock going backward and lots of breaks. I just don't get it.

Seems strange to me. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but teams wear their colors at home and white on the road. Or put another way, teams have a set of colors - they wear one pattern at home and the reverse on the road. Red is NOT one of Portland's colors. Whatever. I don't really care - just think its pretty damned strange.
Also remember that, in college, those who are subbed out can be subbed back in. Kinda like a basketball game. Now in the pro game, I am not sure if that rule applies, however even if it did, I seriously doubt that with only 3 subs at your disposal, you'd decide to sub in a player that's already played. That would be a waste. I actually don't mind watching the collegiate game. I can look past the funky rules because I get to watch the future of the sport in this country. When opportunities present themselves, I'll even watch the indoor game. In other words, if there is any way I can get my footie fix, damn it if I don't find it...
Well, think of it this way... the alternative would've been to do a yellow kit with green detailing. And trust me, that is nowhere near as awesome as it doesn't even sound like it is. Google "Sounders third kit" if you don't believe me.
Not in most games. A few MSU games that I covered that were televised on the Big Ten Network took one commercial break halfway through each half. The subs aren't unlimited, but close. I'm still trying to figure out what the rules are there. The official time is on the scoreboard, like MLS was at the start of the league. Yeah, lots of meddling for the sake of meddling. Americans assuming that they just HAVE to know better than everyone else.
