I was kidding fellas. How would we even know how good these guys will become? Rongen certainly didn't when he snubbed Subotic. Hopefully.

To put it mildly, Rongen's choices of defenders are pretty bizarre. Every single time. He is doing much better with attacking players.

Lets not go crazy a certain player named Jay Denny was Championship reserve player of the year and look how he turned out.

They play different positions. Denny never played a first team game in the 6 years he was with Stoke, Conor has been at Derby for a few months and already has a few first team games. He did play at Shrewsbury but if you believe Wiki he and the club mutually terminated his contract because Denny was upset about coming off the bench.

Don't want to read too much** into a one minute cameo, but I was genuinely encouraged to see Doyle actually get off the bench for the first time in a couple months. This is a very young team, they're doing well, and Doyle is continuing to be part of the mix. They have a match tomorrow, I wonder if this was Nigel Clough's way of telling him "Don't get discouraged, your next chance might be right around the corner".

**this, of course, being Big Soccer, reading too much into anything is well-neigh impossible

Doyle made a late appearance today getting subbed in the 85' in Derby's 2-0 loss to Bristol City. This was his first first team appearance since November 13th.

I'm certain he has, I believe he participated in the Canada friendly. At 19 I think Bradley needs to look at calling him into the Egypt friendly. I'm not a "cap him now" guy but I think we kill two birds with one stone by putting him a senior team jersey and seeing what he's capable of. He has a total of 10 games, but we capped Lichaj at 15 and Agudelo at 2.

Its always nice to see the options we have before something catastrophic a la Charlie Davies happens. We're not the deepest at the position and any competition is great for the pool itself.

Doesn't U-20 WC qualifying Cap tie him? When does that start?

Not permanently, he'd still be able to make a one time switch. Qualifying starts in April. Conor definitely has a busy weekend as he'll be in Fort Lauderdale tomorrow for the start of another U20 camp.

I read he has no goals as a striker in the championship. I know he is young but that really doesn't seem too good.

He's 19 and until Derby his only other option was Creighton University on a scholarship. Before that it was Texas youth teams.

    No need to worry yet.

Doyle has only played 318 minutes, which is about 3.5 full games worth of time. It would be nice if he had put one in, but the fact that he hasn't isn't that much of an indictment of his play. (Now, maybe he has been poor -- I haven't seen him play -- but his lack of goals shouldn't be used as the primary piece of evidence for such an argument).

Goals are overrated. If they weren't, why would Robbie Findley step onto the field for the US?

Seriously though, I'm glad this kid is starting that's fantastic for his age and relative obscurity. Is he a target man type of striker?

He's been scoring for the reserves. He's actually joint top scorer.

Clough seems to really like the kid.

i think this is something we really have to take into consideration. His limited PT mixed with the fact that he ultimately came straight out of a DA club to play with a Championship club is an accomplishment already. He's netted goals for the reserves, he'll find his stride soon enough. Plus as you say, he's 19.

The fact that I had to go about 30 pages back to find a thread about a 19 year old forward getting playing time in the 4 most watched league in the world is awesome. Anyway, Doyle will have some competition:

    http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/n...reed-Rams/article-3103487-detail/article.html

Doyle has played in the midfield in his past few matches for Derby. They need more options up front. As long as he's still in the 18 I'd say its all good.
