I hope FIFA has a good insurance policy after players start collapsing on the pitch in droves. Hopefully, Qatar will be as up for hosting this as Colombia in 1986.

You think USA fans would be just as upset if it went to Australia or Japan and Korea?

    Qatar is a joke.

Yes I am an Asshole for wishing war in Qatar in the near future, rendering it unable to host.

If it had gone to Australia, I understand. But Qatar, no footballing history. None.

On the bright side, at Qatar won't have a problem spending billions on stadiums that will have little future use.

This also means that CONCACAF will go at least 32 years without hosting a World Cup.

    My early bet: Mexico 2026.

If in the future FIFA have to switch countries because of being unprepared, I hope the technically excellent countries tell FIFA to f off.

Want to take risks? Then you should suffer the consequences. Russia will be fine though given they play a lot of football.

Hardly. I think most Americans would have been able to deal with Australia getting it. Likewise for Australians like me if we'd missed out to the US.

Qatar being handed it on a platter just makes a mockery of the entire system.

TSA will still be fondly balls anyhow

Okay, as an American, I'm really not shocked about it. I mean, look, Blatter is known to be an advocate of vouching for the game to be in nations that have never had it, see S. Africa. So in fair play, congrats to the winners. But ooohhhhh let the 'spiracy theories fly about oil money having a part.

The more important question is, where's the sexy women gonna be?

I think it's pretty clear there's some anti-USA sentiment in the world. This is not a mystery to anyone. I really thought the trick to getting a world cup here was picking a year when there just weren't any other seriously viable candidates. I thought we had it.

But Qatar did just enough to capitalize on the anti-USA sentiment. They came around the outside and won at the wire.

Unbelievable. Shows you how mighty the mighty dollar is.

P.s US or Australia would have been the most logical choices.

The uncalled hatred towards Qatar makes me think otherwise.

    See what i mean.

Because Australia has a lot of history...

I love it! I hope this starts a trend of hosting in smaller countries. It's such a pain in the ass to travel during the World Cup - it will be so nice to just arrive at one location and be able to stay there for the duration... you can go to multiple games pretty much every day (because the cities are only 1-2 hours apart) without having to book more flights/trains/buses to get from one place to the next. Awesome!

Congrats to Qatar, although I still think the first WC in the Middle East should have included the UAE. I will defnitely try to make it, even if I no longer live in the region.

I think today's decisions could actually make the USA the early favorite for 2026. Get your hopes up now! :D

Oh given me a break. its money more than Anti-USA sentiment. Fifa shows we would be a success anyways. With Qatar bigger prize if qatar would be a success then US would be.

Amazing that they selected Qatar. Russia is at least a good choice to make, a large country which needs more soccer interest.

What about Australia? They have huge soccer interest. The US also deserved it. FIFA can be corrupt.
