Ajax suspended Suarez for 2 games for his behaviour against PSV. This kind of behaviour is really inappropriate for a captain of Ajax. However, he will not be suspended for the game against Real Madrid.

Was this trying to preempt any suspension that the Football Association would hand out?

I don't think so. I guess Suarez will probably be officially suspended for a few games longer by the KNVB (Dutch FA). Ajax just want to make the statement that they dissaprove of his bahaviour.

Lindgren has accepted his suspension of 2 games as well by the way. I hoped for a longer suspension but I guess we have to be happy with what we get.

    on to today's game. :p

real madrid are the heavy favourites, but if you're into betting a draw will give you some nice odds.

madrid will go into this game knowing that they are already through, but a point will see them clinch 1st spot and with el classico on the way they might want to avoid injuries and will play more cautious..

while ajax know that 3 points will guarantee european footie, so we will go all out.

this group has lived up to it's name and has proven to be the most difficult, so in hindsight we didn't do too badly after all.

milan and madrid are topping the serie a and la liga, while auxerre although in 9th place are only trailing leaders lille with 5 points.

compare this with twente's group, spurs are 6 points behind chelsea, inter 9 behind milan and bremen a whopping 19 behind dortmund.

    my prediction,

    a draw :D

I don't know why Jol left Mido off the match squad. Too many midfielders and defenders on the teamsheet today. He needs goals tonight and the current lineup is not really doing the job. Madrid has never beaten us in Amsterdam so I hope we preserve that record.

Them trying to outdive each other was my fave moment of the whole game. Pure slapstick that.

Why did Mido join the squad to start off with!

Anyway good luck tonight and make that Portuguese handbag carrying crybaby cry once more.

He still wants to play football and we are paying him next to nothing (he is privately quite wealthy and really doesn't need any money to make ends meet). I think he is a good target in the middle and better in the air than anyone else we have on the squad. He's almost fully fit and doesn't look half bad out on the field.

I suspect that Ronaldo will not start the match as Morinho only needs a draw to clinch the group and doesn't want to risk any players for the Barca match next Monday. This could work in our favor but given Jol's tactics the best we can expect is a draw; probably 1-1.

Ajax is not playing at their top lately. It may be Jol--or it may be their midfield is not what they thought when the season started--everyone has video on everyone else now so teams aare reading how these guys react

They will need to at their best if they want to actually win-a draw is what RM is looking for but last time these guys met it wasn't close ---so a win is going to be tough

Mad dog Surez even made the sports pages in the Toronto Star yesterday--they will need to keep him on a leash--my thinking is the losing is getting to him

Even Madrid's B team can probably trash Ajax, getting a draw today is nearly impossible unless Ajax's get their full potential and play their hearts out, Real has a bad day, Casillas is blundering again, a red card.

By the way anyone here also find Frank Snoeks an awful commentator? I still can't understand he was voted "best NOS commentator".

Phantom yellow on a dive; Enoh didn't deserve that! First goal was a lack of concentration; 2nd was a deflection (maybe double deflection coupled with a screen); unfortunate for Steks. We persist in dribbling into two defenders; not a recipe for success.

His bedroom walls are plastered with C. Ronaldo posters.

Ajax aren't even playing that badly (apart from the awful Anita, Suarez and El Ham) but are completely outclassed. Sometimes you've just got to admit that the opponent is clearly superior.

That Picasso comment was really sad...

Doesn't stop many Ajax fans having the delusion that they're worthy for CL level though. They just must face the fact that they're an okay team for EL, not CL. They play not even that bad but they don't just stand a chance, Madrid is basically toying with them...

Yep. Mind you the same could happen to Twente tomorrow so I'm not going to gloat, but we never claimed we could finish in the top two to start off with. You just have to be realistic when you compare the vast difference in financial resources.

Vertonghen and Stek looked CL quality tonight. The rest nah..

Yep, doesn't matter how poor Serie A is now and how sucky teams like AC Milan have become, they're still king on their own field. Well I'm not going to hide it, but I'm really enjoying this. Ajax is the only team I really hate in our country.

Stek is indeed the only really outstanding Ajax player.

If you check the reactions of your fellow Ajax fans on any of the Ajax forums you'll conclude that I'm actually being nice and that it's you they'd probably laugh at and not me. Like I said, Ajax weren't even that bad tonight. You've got to accept that you're no longer part of the European elite and that's what you're apparently struggling with. Most of your fellow Ajax fans don't seem to be having that problem.

Ajax - Real Madrid 0-4... Absolutely hopeless. I wonder what Cruijff has to say this time about the joke that is Ajax.

I'll comment at length later this evening as I have a music lesson that I have to run off to. I will take issue with Johan about who had good matches today. Our back line was not bad at all and could not be faulted for any of the goals today. Both Anita and van der Wiel pushed up the field trying to create mismatches but unsuccessfully. Vertonghen and Alderweireld were rocks in the middle and made some tough plays. de Zeeuw was decent coming in late. Everyone else mailed it in today and should have stayed home.
