These guys don't get nearly enough credit for the way our team plays. See how well our central defenders play? Credit in large part to two time MLS Defender of the Year (and holder of a USSF "A" license) Robin Fraser. See how well our goalkeeper plays? Credit in large part to Jeff Cassar, former MLS GK and teammate of both Jason Kreis and Garth Lagerway. There's no way the trio stays together long term. If I had a head coaching job open, I'd look at Fraser for sure.
Bill Manning said that this club would never keep the coaches/players if they had a chance to go and move onto bigger and better things. Fraser had, I believe, two interviews last year and nothing came of it. We'll see what happens in the off season...
agreed, the day we lose either of these guys (and its a day that will happen sooner rather than later) is the day this team takes a step back. they are amazing assistants and the team is so damn lucky to have them. i hope we can keep them around for another season at least.
Isn't he on the Technical Staff as opposed to an assistant coach? Just trying to keep the spots straight!
Technical staff, assistant coach - same thing, different window dressing. If you look at the RSL website, all three - Joseph, Cassar, and Fraser - are listed as technical staff members. And yes, BJ is off to a new endeavor but his contribution to the current RSL midfield should not be overlooked.
goddamn, i hope not. two teams i would hate to see fraser go to, the cRapids and chivas. dont do that to yourself robin, please!
Fraser was apparently one of the finalists for the Chivas USA job, which reportedly went instead to the craptastic Juan Carlos Osorio.
Now I have a reason to cheer against Chivas. Instead of hiring a guy with Fraser's winning pedigree, they hire a guy who coached a team to one of the worst records in MLS history. What, were Bora and Alfonso Mondelo not available?
Ha. Yes, I think they would be much better with any of the other candidates. So I am glad they went with the worse possible option.
Sorry for intruding in the thread, but I think that Chivas USA made a huge mistake getting Osorio. They passed over Fraser and Denis Hamlett as well. I don't understand why teams perfer to hire washed up managers rather then hire someone new.
they spin that (the clubs that hire them) very easily - you get a proven manager (essentially, you know what you are getting) instead of rolling the dice on a new guy. The manager with experience should have an idea as to what to expect and such, the new guy doesnt (even if he is a top assistant)
I don't think so - he coached the Fire for two years, finished second each time, and took the team to the conference final each year. That he was fired is the mystery, not that someone might want to hire him for an MLS gig.
