I saw a bunch of KC stuff at the Dicks Sporting Goods Park stadium store in Commerce City, CO. I picked up a Quakes jersey for $15 on Saturday.
Lest we forget that officially... Seattle Sounders FC Vancouver Whitecaps FC are the names of these clubs so they are totally Amerieurosnobbish! Sporting KC is kinda growing on me and I assumed the SC was Sporting Club.
So KC joins Metrobull at the top of the name change leader board. Unless you're counting San Jose Clash/Wizards/1836/Houston/Dynamo. Man, LA needs to get in on the action. Maybe LA Real Barcelona FC.
Let's not forget the Chivas USA/Club Deportivo Los Angeles/L.A. Aztecs rebrand everybody been talking about.
Not sure. The back end of soccernet, and pretty much every soccer online store in the U.S. - including MLSgear and BigSoccer is Eurosport. I assume Eurosport sources from both SportsScarf and Ruffneck. One odd thing about Ruffneck is that "Kansas City" is the only MLS team they have never offered a scarf for that I'm aware of.
At first I thought it was a horrible idea. But after 59 pages (29 if you have 20 post per page) I've warmed up to it. Living in soccer purgatory (N. FL) I am a fan of the league and hope that Sporting KC is well supported.
It looks like the team logo is on the scarf (on both sides). It's so small, I can't make it out -- perhaps someone with some graphics arts skills can enlarge it? But it doesn't look like the leaked logo to me. Anyone?
It's completely obvious that it's the same crest/badge(sorry, logo isn't the right word) as the leaked one. btw, I really like the light blue in their colours.
I have to admit I am very sad about Kansas City fall into the EuroPoser Abyss. I actually liked the name the wizards. 1. Wizards fit with the Kansas and 2. some players are just magical with the ball. The Wizards use to have a ton of tricks up their sleves now they fall into the self hateing sporting. RIP Wizards i will always call KC the Wizards 1996-2010 [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_ULg4RSy5Y"]YouTube - The Death Of Optimus Prime[/ame]
LOL. Hadn't considered that. Wonder why the Timbers didn't jump on the latest FC or Euro style name bandwagon like all the other recent expansion teams.
The Squiggly SC in the crest? It looks like something out of that movie with the guy whose wife died and left signs for him to find the baby she had before she passed or something like that. Anyway, Is there any local symbology that it might match like two rivers crossing or something, the font seems kind of odd. ??
There are actually two rivers that come together right where Kansas and Missouri meet at Kansas City, but I guess we will find out if this font has any meaning in a couple of hours. Interesting observation.
FWIW, the TA has long referred to the club as PTFC. I personally was kind of surprised the FO didn't officially adopt it, to be honest.
mls fans whine more than anyone on the planet. it's a perfectly fine name. it's not gonna destroy the league to have a non-disney name for their club. relax.
Yes...but that is captured by the stripes, which define the Kansas/Missouri border - the angle at the top represents the Missouri River, which defines the state line starting in downtown KC and heading to the northwest. (That is really pretty clever, it's the only part of the badge I really like.) I don't know what they're thinking with the squiggly "SC". Perhaps we'll gain some enlightenment tonight.
Sporting Kansas City still isn't as bad as Chivas USA and Real Salt Lake. At least they plan on being involved in more sports. Chivas USA has no real identity and Real Salt Lake is just blantantly ripping off Real Madrid. I think both of those could be tweaked to sound so much better. Royal Salt Lake and CD Los Angeles.
