Based on this article we can start getting excited but it looks like the stadium will definetly hold a commercial name and not a warm and fuzzy name like "Harrison Field". Any guesses as to what we may get? Please let it not be JCP&L Stadium or yet another bank name stadium. Also does 5000 car parking deck seem right? Looks like at sellout parking may be tough. Also 10000 seats are movable? What is this a high school stadium design? http://www.nj.com/news/jjournal/index.ssf?/base/news-0/107839512576161.xml
1) Nick Sakiewicz's Joint , man after all the BS he's been through... 2 )Metrostar Park 3) Da Bada Bing 2
The parking deck will also be used for commuters using the PATH. If you've ever tried to park in that area during the morning commute hours, you'd see that 5000 doesn't seem like it's enough. Anything with Metro in it will be cool (Metro Park, Metro Center, etc), but most likely it will have some corporate name. Pick any big name company out of a hat, and that name could be on the marquee.
Sure would be nice to name it MetroPark or something, but if they can cash in a million/year then its cool . It is important to make money and i am for anything but the use of the grass field for other events that may damage the field. I hope never to see football lines again. I also wish they have seats not bench type, and please give us a roof. and no open end, its not needed and its ugly.
I think that Prudential should get the naming rights for two reasons. 1) They are the largest private employer in Newark 2) It would be awesome to call our field "The Rock"
The Rock at Prudential Park (Field) , not bad. Yep, open ends are ugly. Keep it tight, totally encompassed stands.
What to call the Red & Black joint Estadio Amado Guevara, in honor of this year's MVP season leading the Metros to their first MLS championship.
To borrow a line from Woody Allen, "It's like anything else". If we were able to name it correctly without money involved, it would be named Clark Field in honor of the site in Kearny that hosted the first US international game, and played host to a number of important games in Jersey soccer history. But, we have long since stopped living in that age. Metro/Harrison will sell the rights to the highest bidder, so you do what sports fans do. You hope someone cool bids the highest, and that if nothing else it gives you good fodder for a nickname. List of some of the top companies in New Jersey, by number of employees: 1 Wakefern Food Corp./ShopRite 31,800 2 Saint Barnabas Healthcare System 23,000 3 Verizon Communications 17,151 4 Park Place Entertainment 16,000 5 AT&T Corp. 15,000 6 Merck & Co. Inc. 12,722 7 Prudential Financial Inc. 12,321 8 Public Service Enterprise Group Inc. 12,000 9 Home Depot 11,900 10 Johnson & Johnson 11,843 11 Continental Airlines 11,595 12 United Parcel Service 11,568 So, pick your favorite. Merck is an interesting choice. Playing games at "The Pill", "The Medicine Cabinet" or naming it after one of thier drugs. We could call ourselves the addicts. You'd have to figure J&J is out because of the Jets, Continental hasn't got a ton of money to spare, Home Depot already has a stadium. I don't want to be in PSE&G's Gas Chamber. Maybe UPS, call it "The Package". Anyway. I don't think you can worry too much about it. It will happen, and you won't have a say. Though, after it all happens, we can come here (or somewhere) and figure out our name for it.
Please pardon me for posting, being I'm a United fan, but I think the corporate sponsorships make a lot of sense economically, both now and in the future, so I might suggest something with a little staying-power and also reflect the team's brand identity. Maybe something like this: Prudential MetroPlex Then, when the corporate sponsor changes, you can keep the MetroPlex part, people will remember what and who it is, and the corporate sponsor will still be happy. So when it changes to (i.e.) the UPS MetroPlex would be an acceptable compromise to both the sponsor and the fans. By using a different front treatment, you could clearly brand the Metro part of MetroPlex to read like the name on the uniform. Then just require that it be written in a certain way (i.e. trademark it and require the trademark be used when referring to it), to use any reference as a chance to grow the brand. BTW, this is a very serious suggestion, so flame if you dislike it, but I'm in no way being flippant. Even the Home Depot Center has a word that identifies it as a stadium ("Center") so this would be a great way to incorporate the Metros branding. -Digital
I think that it ALWAYS has something that it identifies its a stadium. Wether its Field, Stadium, Arena, Bowl, etc. But I think MetroPlex its retarded. Just name it _____ Stadium. Simple and to the point. No need to get the ad wizards involved here and make a mess out of nothing.
It's been a long time since I've been there -- but isn't there already a place called MetroPark -- the Amtrak station in the Iselin area?
I actually said that to Nick last year. Based on the number of parking spaces at GS, as compared to what they are planning to have in Harrison, it could be a huge CF. I think they are anticipating on much of the fan base taking mass transit. They don't seem to care about those who drive.
I was saying the same thing to someone in work the other day. It could end up like Giants Stadium except it will be those with the cars who choose not to go because of the hassle, not the commuters.
I think the parking issue will not be as bad as most think. The traffic will be tough unless they get a special exit from 280, but even with it you should remember that most of our games are Saturday at 4pm or 7pm. Neither are times when traffic flows into Newark. With most of the NY guys taking the Path, plus Jersey folks on the Path, you need a lot less spots than you do at GS. Figure that it holds 25,000. 10,000 of those take the Path. Then you have 15,000 fighting for 5,000 parking spots. Other than 16A, if you look around most parking lots at GS it's families and soccer teams all piling into the same car. I'd be willing to guess that a 3 to 1 ratio isn't all that impossible to acheive. Getting 5,000 cars out of the lot and onto 280 after the game will be a pain, but you have to figure the allure of the new park will outweigh the problems of traffic congestion for most fans. The true fans, anyway.
I think the 10,000 estimate using the path trains is too high. I might be wrong, but, based on the current demographics at GS that isn't the case. Last summer I had the figures for the number of spaces at GS and the people per space number is much lower, somewhere in the neighborhood of 3.75 to 4.25, as opposed to 5. You know how the parking is for Jets or Giants games. I can see this ending up like Yankee's games, where the parking is horrendous.
WHat ya'll also fail to realize is that this stadium is going to be built in a neighborhood that already exist on top of another 700 homes. We dont need to rely on car traffic as much as we did in GS people are already there, the stadium is right down the street and the people of Harrison/Kearny/Newark will hopefully take this as a city pride and can pretty much fill up a 25K stadium on their own. Just look at every other stadium/Arena that is situated in a REAL neighbohood, cars arent a concern to the teams because they have the people actually there already. Also the beauty of this is that if people find parking the cars a hassle they can just drive to their nearest train station and take the NJT Train in. Theres a train station within 30 mins of pretty much 80% of the people in this state. Newark/Harrison is at such a central spot that anyone can get to it with Public trans. Unlike GS where you either drive out or you take your chances on spotty bus service.
So in other words you want F%## the people who have been going to the games for the last 8 years for an entirely new fan base. Nice. There is a train station within 30 minutes of most people....Get a clue. I can get to GS in an hour from CT right now. So what good is spending 30 minutes to get to a train and then having to spend the time on the train..... Also, please tell me what train I can take to get to the stadium..................
Even though Newark Penn Station is one PATH stop from and within the line of sight from the stadium site, I'm not sure how convenient the NJT train schedule is on the weekend for most NJ fans.
I never said that. What I was trying to say is that the meat of attendance is going to come from the surrounding areas and traveling fans aren't going to be as much as you may think, thus the "hassle" isnt going to be such a big of a deal. Alright numbnuts I used 30 minutes as a maximum amount of time. The reality is most people got one less than that. And the train ride over will probably be faster than anything route youll take by car. F#4! if I know you live in Conneticutt who cares. Might as well be living in Colorado and asking for directions. Not that people dont appreciate your support and business, but its kinda ridiculous to bethinking about people from conneticut isnt it? I mean how many of there ya? 50?
