Yes but unfortunately Hicks is still trying to block the sale and tie it up in court which is having an unfortunate effect on the overall morale of thier club. I'm no Liverpool fan, but it's sad what's happening to them. Then again, other clubs have dealt with relegation and recovered. It might actually be good for the EPL to see one of the big clubs go down for a year and have to rebuild.

True, but Liverpool also had success in the first few years of Hicks' ownership and won the Champions League. The Rangers were even good for awhile. It's the long-run of his ownership that franchises/clubs struggled. When his radio empire couldn't fund everything and he drastically slashed the Rangers' payroll, he started leveraging massive debts on Liverpool, and sold the Stars. He was considered a fine owner for awhile, but totally ruined his clubs when things got hard. Where he became a bad owner was when he didn't know when to quit with the Rangers and is practically trying to hold Liverpool hostage, and I'm no fan of either team.

I really wanted to root for the Rangers in this series but, living in Dallas, when my Yankees were beaten I didn't realize how much the trash-talking from Rangers fans would bother me. I mean, hello, we still are a year removed from winning #27 we've beaten the Rangers 3 times in the playoffs and the Rangers still haven't won a title. Win the damn thing before talking trash to us.

Wait, a Yankees fan is getting put-out by another team's fans' trash-talking?

I might not have, if all of the ppl doing the trash talking hadn't been either not following baseball at all or they were Redsox or Cubs fans last season. So many transplants have suddenly put on Rangers caps and have the nerve to trash-talk to me. I really don't know too many life-long Rangers fans, but the ones that I do know really aren't the ones talking too much (probably bc they remember where they were before) and therefore aren't the ones that bothered me. I find myself unable to root for the Rangers as I had wanted to bc I don't want to hear it anymore, I want these ppl to feel unhappy.

    I think you mis-understood what I said.

    The Liverpool sale WENT THROUGH!!

Hicks FAILED in his attempt to block the sale to NESV (the Red Sox owners). It was finalized TWO weeks ago.

    You have a comprehension problem.

The reason you take crap as a Yankees fan is because of all the CRAP Yankees fans dish out. Get over it!

I didn't realize that Hicks had finally dropped his lawsuit. At least the man has some decency and hasn't dragged them into administration which surely would have relegated them. This is good news.

Maybe if the Yankees fans wouldn't act like self-absorbed, mindless douchebags every time the Yankees came to Arlington, Rangers fans wouldn't bow up when they finally beat the Damn Yankees.

The Yankees fans shove those rings and everything else under the sun in Rangers fans every single game played between the two teams in Arlington and now you're getting mad when you get a little bit of it back?

    Gimme a break.

P.S. What borough are you from?

I grew up in upstate NY, but my older sisters were both born in NYC and much of my family still lives there, mostly in Bronx, Jamaica Queens and some in Orange New Jersey.

But I wasn't one of the Yankee fans that talked shit about the Rangers, (I kinda liked them, and I am a fan of the Mavs). I talk shit about the Cowboys (it especially annoyed me that my dad had always been a Cowboys fan despite living back east for over 20 years. I feel that he was brainwashed by pop culture in the 70s). I admit that I talk alot of shit about them. But I kept saying till I was blue in the face that losing to the Rangers didn't bother me, but it's like ppl were trying to make me lose my cool about that series so they could finally rub it in. And then co-workers and friends of mine, who I know them well; most of them didn't even follow the Rangers last year. Some of them were fans of other teams or didn't even follow baseball. No room for them to talk. I probably followed the Rangers more than they did.

But it's when I say to anyone, even perfect strangers, "yeah your boys beat my Yankees, I'm not upset bc we just won the WS, and you guys haven't got one yet. We can't win every year, good luck." And they immediately try to get a rise out of me. It actually pissed them off that I wasn't that upset. That annoys me, I'm sorry. I don't feel that I should have to take shit bc some ppl think that other Yankee fans are obnoxious.

Lawsuit lurches on but it is only for monetary damages against RBS and the board due to the sale price not being "market". Remember about a month before the sale Forbes valued Liverpool at 650m (iirc) and it sold for under $500m. Of course RBS and the board marketed it broadly and this was the result. No one would refinance or partner with H/G due to the bad mojo w fans/press which took away that option for owners.
No question franchise values in all sports are mostly falling as banks will no longer (for the most part) fund negative operating cash flow year and year assuming that the capital value always increases.

So...you don't think saying something like what I bolded and underlined above isn't going to have sh*t thrown at you?????

I'm a Yankees fan as well, and it sucks to be painted with that brush because I'm not obnoxious about it (however, I am an obnoxious FCD fan). However, if you see all the bullsh*t that a LOT of Yankees fan spew at fans of other teams over the last fifteen years since the last NYY bandwagon was re-filled, I don't blame fans of other teams (including the Rangers) for rubbing it back in our faces when they get the chance.

I'm not annoyed by it -- the other teams I love (Miami Dolphins, FCD, USNT) have had to trudge through (1) long periods of humility and (2) having our mediocrity thrown in our face. So I have an idea where Rangers fans are coming from, especially with a team as polarizing as the Yankees.

    Sorry for (yet another) threadjacking.

The boys at World Football Daily had it right when they said you knew he was broke when his wife kicked him straight out of the house after news of his affair emerged. A wife never gets rid of a husband until she knows she has everything she can get. :)

Yeah, I realize I pulled the thread off track a bit, so I apologize. Let me get this one last thing in.

I'm also a Phili Eagles fan, (I was born in Bethlehem and I was originally a big Cunningham fan then a fan of McNabb) so I understand completely. Imagine having the Dallas Cowboys' 20 year old Super Bowl rings rubbed in my face every fall when football season starts, so I understand. Which is part of what annoyed me. I already take alot of crap from Cowboys fans for being an Eagles fan. And alot of Rangers fans are also Cowboys fans, so the idea of hating a team for their obnoxious fanbase seems a bit of the pot calling the kettle black to me.

Lastly, I liked the Rangers before this series, and I probably still do. I just felt that I got dragged into a position where I found myself rooting against them, and I kinda feel bad about it bc in the end I wanted that team to win the WS,... I just didn't want to hear about it the next day.

It's amazing how quickly his media empire collapsed. One has to admire how astutely and quickly Mark Cuban divested himself of his money-making assets before they could go bust. Money in the hand and all that.

Rangers fell short of winning it all, but it was one amazing season for the Rangers. It also distracted the local media and the local fans from the abortion known as the 2010 Dallas Cowboys (who just fired Wade Phillips) for 8 weeks.
