Seems like we're signing the him from Harbour View according to http://www.metrofanatic.com/mf/story.jsp?ID=1728 Can't really seem to find out a lot of info on him. Anyone know anything?
Bergin's article states that "He has been named the player of the month for the past four months" and is leading the league in scoring. Sounds pretty impressive to me. Congrats on getting him.
from Metro PR: MetroStars Acquire Jamaican Forward Fabian Taylor Taylor to Join Fellow Reggae Boy Craig Ziadie with the "Red and Black" SECAUCUS, NJ (Thursday, March 4, 2004) - The MetroStars announced today that they have acquired Jamaican forward Fabian Taylor as a Transitional International player using a Discovery pick. Pending visa approval, the member of the Jamaican National team is slated to join the Metros in Fort Lauderdale on March 9th, for the third leg of the team's preseason training. "Fabian is an exciting young forward with an excellent goal scoring record," said MetroStars Head Coach Bob Bradley. "We are excited to bring him to the MetroStars, and we believe that he is a good addition to our young team. We feel he has the potential to make an impact for the MetroStars." The 23-year-old Taylor has earned 29 caps with the Jamaican National Team since making his first appearance with the full team in 1999. With the Reggae Boyz, he has tallied nine goals. On the club level Taylor has spent the last four years with Harbour View Football Club of the Jamaican Wray and Nephew National Premier League, Jamaica's top professional soccer league. He has had success throughout his four years with Harbour View, however, this season he has emerged as one of the premier players in the league. He has been named the player of the month for the past four months, and currently leads the league with 19 goals. "We are excited to be able to sign an up-and-coming goal scorer like Fabian," said MetroStars President and General Manager Nick Sakiewicz. "Fabian has proved on both the club and National team level that he is able to score goals, and that is an area that we are trying to address this off season." Taylor stands at 5'10 and 165 pounds, and before playing for Harbour View Football Club he spent time with Central Links Football Club, in Jamaica's A-League. Taylor isn't the only Metros name with a NY nfl connection. Take a look at this photo and see the remarkable resemblence. 1962 photo in Jets original uniform (Titans) Bill Mathis played 10 years for the Jets/Titans.
Speaking of Mathis The Jets had another Mathis as well. Terrence Mathis was a wide receiver/kick returner for the Jets in the mid 1990's. There is a long tradition of Mathis at el estadio de gigante.
Taylor....Taylor....Nova....Nova.... Taaaaaaayylor.....Noooooooova...... Do you love me, I wonder? Can you love me, I wonder?
Imagine me needing someone... Back on Earth I never did. Oh, there were women... lots of women.. lots of lovemaking... but no love. You see, that was the kind of world we'd made. So I left, because there was no one to hold me there...
He's a forward that's been capped 29 times by Jamaica? Sounds like a very good pickup. Consider that as good as Wralph is, many say he's going to struggle to get playing time with Jamaica because of their depth at forward. So it looks like we've picked up someone who's ahead of Wralph in the depth charts there. And only used a Discovery to get him. Sounds very promising, and I hope that he lives up to it. Anyone know what his injury is, and how bad it is?
They're paying for him with a CREDIT card? Man, things have gone from bad to worse with the Metrostars. Frankly, if I were the one handling the transaction and Nick slipped me some plastic I'd be waaaay suspicious. Oh,...wait, you mean visa like in PASSPORT? Nevermind. =NLK= BTW: I'm real sorry to muck up the boards with this but I couldn't resist. I've been trying to write a paper for the last month and I'm basically in a stupor. This opportunity seemed to just "pop" out at me. IAC, I really hope BB WAS the one who picked the talent at Chicago. I'm trusting that he knows his stuff, because with a pool the size of Jamaican footballers you've got to be REALLY sharp to get a good one (not railing on Jamaica or Jamaicans, who I really respect for having some of the best schooling outside the US, just that it's a SMALL country).
Don't forget the 2% Cash Back at the end of the year. Maybe we can use it to get Addo, and some magazine subscriptions.
he scored 19 goals last season in Jamaica, if he can score 10 or more in the MLS would be great. First big sign on the year in my opinion, we need at least 3 more
so its better to score 19 in the jamaican league then in the Irish league when did Bradley see him play ?, maybe based on video or word to mouth and probably comes in cheep, so what now is our team done or expecting anyone else ?

[/B][/QUOTE] Are you familiar with these names: Onandi Low, Ricardo Gardner, Ricardo Fuller and i am sure u heard of Demani Ralph. Just to name some of the players out of Jamaica. Dont worry about the size of the pool - its the skill level you need to be concerned with. We all know that Jamaicans are some of most skillful players in the region.
I don't disagree, Jahmakya... my claim is just that, given the size of the country and what I perceive is a generally lower level of competition within that country (due to a shallow talent depth), it's going to be more difficult to find the skillful ones. When you're constantly on display in a league that has a more familiar level of skill it's easier to see what you've got. That's why I'm hoping I can rely on BB's talent-evaluating ability to have bagged us a good one. Of course, that's just my opinion. I would like nothing else than to see another Damani Ralph or something close to him in a Metros' kit. =NLK=
Player of the month four months in a row, about 30 caps for the Raggae boyz wiht 9 international goals and only 23 years of age... seems like a good pickup to me!
