********'n Rangers... So FCDallas Game #1 will either be against the biggest sporting event in Dallas since.... ummm MLSCUP 2005/2006D), or on a Thursday????
Does anybody remember the furniture commercial they used to play at halftime where the loud fat guy with the baseball bat is wailing on the dresser that's slightly behind him with his little sausage arms, but he never breaks eye contact with the camera in front of him? F'ing awesome stuff! Then, just when you're recovering, he pulls a big drawer out of another dresser, way too fast and then has no idea what to do with it. I must have rewound that commercial and watched it 20 times the first time I saw it, and I giggled like a schoolgirl every subsequent time it came on. Alas, all his newer commercials are merely generically bad, and we may never see that level of brilliance again.
I love that commercial. It should be on the intertubes, because it was in one of the Viral Video Film School segments about commercials (where I learned Cleveland Brown's furniture store rap-dance was an actual commercial).
I found it! Well, half of it. The subtly awesome drawer coda is missing, but the main greatness of the baseball bat part is intact. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8SypEdz0Ug"]YouTube - Town & Country Furniture Commercial (DFW)[/ame]
FC Dallas is at 4pm. World Series is at 630. Only thing that'll make anyone miss anything will be traffic.
Ah, the Rangers. "Throw 'em the old Puffball, Gaylord!" I can still hear that cry echoing through the old half-empty Arlington Stadium. Sunburns and buckets o' beer out in the bleachers. Seven Seas next door. Good times. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8Y6lgn-AiQ"]YouTube - Ode To The Texas Rangers[/ame]
First pitch is 5:57, and they're showing the game at PHP. I don't think it's coincidence that the FCD game will end pretty much exactly at 5:57. I think the 4:00 time is deliberate. As late in the day as they can get without overlapping at all with the Rangers. Trying to put the game after the Rangers would mean they'd need to start at 9:30 or 10:00, and even then, they might start before the Rangers are done, and that would lead to nobody in the stands at game time. It's the best they could have done with the situation they had.
Their home opener is tonight. By the way, I was at the Stars game last night and that place was nowhere near half full.
I'll be heading to the game. Recently got posted in Big D for a year and so bought ducats for next year and surprised they offered me a comp for the game on Saturday. Then I realized the Rangers game would take a huge bite out of attendance and realized why.
How many franchises/clubs has Hicks mismanaged now. Too bad Liverpool can't get out from under his thumb like the Rangers and Stars did. He's going to drive them into relegation and it will be sad. What's ridiculous is that noone will sell Mark Cuban a baseball team but Hicks kept buying team after team.
To be fair, Hicks did own the Stars 10 years ago when they were winning a Stanley Cup and President's Trophies.
