Correct. It's the correct decision at this moment. Corrales decision making and experience against a quality KC team is required. Arturo will come in late in the game if a goal is needed...

    Nooooooooo!

I love Ramiro, but he shouldn't play if he's not 100%. Besides, his best position by far is in the center.

With him out there we'll be unbalanced, as with Manny. Not that that in itself is so bad, but Eklund will already be clogging things up in the middle. And with Arturo we're much less predictable.

Dunivant should stand up to Klein. Maybe Corrales is supposed to deal with Preki coming from the right. If so, then KC's attack is dictating our strategy. But how 'bout we play attack-minded at home?

Arturo has earned his time, up top or wide left. YOUTH MOVEMENT!

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp With Donovan and Mulrooney heading off for National Team camp this coming week, it looks like Arturo Alvarez will definitely see playing time against Chicago on July 5th - and maybe even against the MetroStars on July 2nd.

    &nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp GO EARTHQUAKES!!! :(

Less long ball, more Arturo. He shoulda started his 18th birthday - or came in at half time.

hey, I use to play with art, he has crazy skills but his only down fall is he has a weak right foot...hopefully they are working with him on that. he is a natural forward and goal scorer. put him up top!!!

There's a bunch more glowing reviews from the Houston soccer festival, including this from Rongen:

In both of the match reports that featured player ratings Arturo earned 8's - the highest ratings of any of the players.

    How bad is Alvarez hurt?

I read that Arturo got hurt in Spain playing for the U-20 team. What did he do and how long will he be out?

    anderson,
Thanks for putting that up. I listened and was impressed. A whole one-hour radio program on soccer out of Houston. Woo-ha! Thank God for NPR! There's no way one of these commercial stations would do that!

Adu Replaces Alvarez on U.S Soccer Team

I know that we aren't supposed to post actual articles here but this is off AOL news and there is no link. Sorry mods

Adu Replaces Alvarez on U.S. Soccer Team

    .c The Associated Press

CHICAGO (AP) - Fourteen-year-old Freddy Adu was chosen Wednesday to replace injured San Jose Earthquakes player Arturo Alvarez on the U.S. Under-20 men's national team when it competes in the FIFA World Youth Championship.

Coach Thomas Rongen said the team was disappointed to lose Alvarez, but it was clear he would not be fully recovered from a groin injury in time for the tournament Nov. 27-Dec. 19 in the United Arab Emirates.

Adu, who is from Maryland, said earlier Wednesday he had signed a contract with Major League Soccer and will be eligible for the 2004 draft.

He has been playing with the U.S. Under-17 team and led it in scoring this season with 19 goals. He was second last season with 22.

I feel bad for Arturo. Will this be his only opportunity to play in the U20 Youth Championships? He'll probably be too old next time around.

Especially since Rongen thinks quite highly of AA, and would have used him in a key role (mostly as a critical change-of-pace sub) in this tournament.

But something tells me this won't be the last we'll be hearing about AA.

Especially since I tend to drink more when Arturo's injured.

I deeply wish there was a chance of him playing in the Final.

We know he can create. We know he can beat people. We know he can change the game.

But Chicago doesn't really know him.

Found this today on Arturo's whereabouts. Very glad to hear that he's getting over the injury.

Actually the good news is he will be eligible again in 2005.

With Lagos gone, this could be a breakout year for the young fella. Is he up to it?
