I tried to find a thread on this show but couldn't. Mods, If I missed it inadvertently please delete or merge. Thanks. What is up with this show and its celebrity guest obsession? I've been trying to give the show a chance to develop and find a groove, and while I've seen a few decent segments they seem to always open with a long piece with some no-name celebrity. Tonight, for example, they had Gregg Sulkin for the first 13 minutes! (Who? 18 yo actor from the Disney Channel) WTF? I just fired this off to Fox Soccer Channel: Why does a sports talk show have long opening segments with entertainers who have nothing to do with soccer? Disney teenage actor Gregg Sulkin? Seriously? What audience are you going for here? It's inconceivable to me that a show called Soccer Talk Live thinks it's audience wants to hear what B-list actors and singers have to say. I really wanted to like this show but this stuff is simply unwatchable. I've tried. I give up. While it had its inane moments, too, I miss Fox Football Fone-in. It was much better than this crap. If you agree, tell FSC what you think: soccertalklive@foxsoccer.com.
Hear is the therd you warnt. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1518578 anyway i have to agree with you and i sent fsc a email after the first show tell fox how this show is a joke they shold bring back fff.
"... and speaking of uncreative segues, how about that email segment, Keith?" they should make Jo Ankier host the show
I keep thinking that this show is getting picked up somewhere other than FSC to try to justify some sort of crossover appeal.
Can't be a good sign: "Soccer Talk Live" is being moved to the 11 p.m. Eastern time slot on Mondays. The 7 p.m. slot will be filled with the umpteenth rerun of "Premier League Review Show"; the two-hour 8 p.m. block will have Premier League and Serie A match reruns. I hope FSC isn't abandoning the idea of Monday prime time as destination viewing. It had really become a habit for many of us, through good and ill.
Since the show is already a late-night talkshow format they might just be moving it to a late-night slot to see if it does better there. I don't think it will do better anywhere, it's horrible.
I think this show is off the tv in 2 months i sew this weeks show as i cloud not sleep so i tund on fsc and stl was on so i gave it a look and it was bad.
Some of you may remember McEnroe on CNBC: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McEnroe "You cannot be serious!" Will Soccer Talk Live on FSC be able to finish the season (which ends in May 2011)or will FSI executives decide to cut their losses before the holidays in December 2010?
I think Kramer put on a better show from his apartment. May be Martino can get at least Newman as his sidekick.
or maybe most of their viewers are on the West coast? It'd be prime time there and follow the FSR with Bobby McMahon. I still think they should have Jo Ankier and Costigan run the show and have Martino fill the Temryss Lane role. How about Ankier, Costigan and Wynalda.
It's just not a good show at all. It adds nothing to my knowledge and provides no entertainment and very little analysis. I've said before that I do think Martino is talented and has a future. I think he should stick with color commentating. This show just isn't gonna make it - no way it lasts until the end of the season (2011).
the only good thing is the interviews - which has a bit of value. But the whole show feels like it should be segments of some bigger, more solid more comprehensive show. I just don't know how that type of show can be shown and paid for on such a small network like FSC.
holy crap. a soccer talk show where they interview a speed skater......yeah this is just what we need to make this game more credible (good god look at temryss). please put this show and this idea out of its misery and have an EPL/serie a/ligue 1/MLS/International/Champions League analysis show without callers or if you have callers, get a screener. hell hire me. i'll do the damn show. it couldn't be worse than this
I actually found the interview with Ohno pretty compelling. However it's hard to get away from the fact that this show could/should be so much more if they extended it to 2 hours and included at least 2 10-minute segments of a panel discussion of the top 5 talking points from the weekend. In it's current form it's nothing more than a soccer version of the Byron Allen show.
I gave up after 3 shows, when I realize nothing was changing. They're running out of ideas; please bring back the 7PM Sky Sports News.
I've read several interviews with FSC execs talking about the show. Their ideas for the show and what it can accomplish are very unrealistic. They see it as a show for non-fans or very new fans, to help convert them into regular fans. I don't see anyone, hardcore fan or not, tuning into this show, seeing the lack of production quality, and changing their habits. I also think it's a bit nuts to try catering to non-fans on a soccer-specific channel.
It's generic committee decision-making gone awry. "Well, guys, this World Cup just captured Americans' imagination like never before. There's clearly a lot of new soccer interest simmering out there." "Yes, in fact, our latest data shows a 4% increase in new subs during the July-August period." "So what can we do to cater to these newbie fans, really tap this budding soccer interest out there, ease them into full-time soccer fandom? Let's brainstorm." "Well, how about a program that..." And eventually you end up with this.
DING DING DING Exactly. If this thing were also making its way to FSN as a syndicated hour of programming then it would make sense. But on FSC? This is the type of show that should be podcasted (in parts), and where they should sell segments to other shows like FSN Final Score or something. It has potential but they need to be creative about promoting it.
For the second straight week, Martino has mischaracterized the brewing FIFA scandal. In both cases he has left the impression -- either through sloppiness or ignorance -- that the U.S. is involved in the World Cup bid shenanigans. Last night he portrayed it as "people are selling their votes for the U.S. World Cup bid." It's not a minor error. This is the sort of stuff where precision and accuracy are essential. Even on a breezy talk show.
Well, sure. But this was pretty glaring. It came off like Martino doesn't even know the basics of the situation.
FSI management has quietly cancelled Soccer Talk Live without making an announcement. The Monday 11pm ET time slot has been replaced with either English Premier League or UEFA Champions League re-airs. The Monday 11pm PT/Tuesday 2am ET time slot has been replaced with a live simulcast of Sky Sports News.
