We are back at the same stage that killed Brian Kerr almost 4 years ago, and the exact same foe are at our door. Will Trap go if we don’t qualify? Maybe not, he’s Italian. It’s only our own we disrespect.

In 2006 Ireland finished 4th in its World Cup qualifying group, out of the playoffs, behind France Switzerland and Israel.

By any objective measure, finishing 2nd in the World Cup qualifying group, and in the playoffs, represents progress.

And disrespecting our own? Is Staunton included in that group?

By any objective measure it comes down to qualifying for the WC or not. Making the WC play-offs gets you nothing unless you qualify.

So we are now face with the same thing, beat France or stay at home, same as 2006.

Let me say I have no problem with Trapatoni, he has done a wonderful job with the squad of players at his disposal. Same as Brian Kerr did a wonderful job in the 2006 qualifiers against much better opposition.

In 2006 it came down to one game against France and we went out on our only loss. In 2006 we were talking about a great French side with world class players in their prime. Like Patrick Vieira, Henry, Gallas, and veterans like Makelee and Zidane pulling strings. They ended up as WC finalist and should have, could have would have won the thing except for a moment of madness. In 2006 Switzerland and Israel went undefeated in the qualifiers and Switzerland did not lose a game in the WC finals

The present French side is no ways as strong and many are too old to compete on a world stage in 2010. This side could only beat Brian Kerr’s mighty Faroe Islands 1-0. Not the kind of result that anyone with an objective measure would consider world class.

The Staunton bait is comical, it’s almost like asking if the Rev.Al Sharpton compares to MLK. (We did mention prophets?)

I'm home for the Croke Park game and praying the ball does not fall to Henry unmarked 30 yards from goal :) What the tactics then bhoys?

Trap stays either way. His contract has just been extended through Euro2012.

    Hello.

No, didn't see, but had a good laugh at the NI captain referring to NI as 'giants' prior to the game.
