MLS-wide Cap day moves I thought that we'd start a thread to talk about the various cap-related trades and waives happening not just wiith our beloved DCU but MLS wide as well and to continue it through Wednesday's waiver draft. I see that Chris Bergin is reporting that Dallas has waived Ali Curtis. Buzz is speculating that Dallas will also drop Deering, Hendrickson, and Dunseth.
Re: MLS-wide Cap day moves As I said in another thread, I would be happy to have Ali back. I do not know our standing in the waiver draft, but he is both cheap and good. He has serious heart and is the best super sub in the league, in my opinion. In the super sub role, this guy has produced in the recent past with DC. If it is possible that we would be basically guaranteed of selecting him, I would encourage KasPayne to drop/waive Cerritos' extremely high salary (on a performance basis especially) and get Ali. This may even open enough room for retaining Reyes (if it is possible to go back on a prior waiver). Tim
Re: MLS-wide Cap day moves Those three have actually been long gone except for the official move. I think Deering is already playing for the Dallas Sidekicks and is listed on the roster of the "Austin Posse," a team that says it will play an independent schedule to gauge the interest for an MLS or A League team in Austin.
Re: Re: MLS-wide Cap day moves I think a team would do well in Austin, and with a name like "Posse", the after-match drink up should be held at The Posse East.
Re: Re: MLS-wide Cap day moves Cerritos is going to play for DC based on Coach's vote of confidence in him at supporters' summit. See that thread for more. GM
Re: Re: MLS-wide Cap day moves I think is the sentiment of most of this board. A good guy, very hard worker, tremendous energy off the bench. If only he could score just a little more often. perc
What I remember most about Curtis' play is his determination to break through 2 or 3 defenders on the dribble. Always exciting to watch on the ball, then gets himself into situations that he can't get out of. If he could just learn to look for passing options a bit earlier, I think he could become a genuine scoring threat. Is this something that can be learned at this stage of his career? I wish I knew...
EZ Hendrickson is sort of a poor man's Reyes. If DC doesn't pick him up, that suggests that Reyes' release was tactical. If DC does pick him up, that suggests that Reyes' release was either because of the cap, or because he didn't come back from the injury well enough.
... mod's note ... For the sake of dissuading irregulars from BSLive and the FSW website, I tweaked the title to differentiate this thread from the other half dozen or so similar threads on the other boards. This is just cap compliance day. The final roster doesn't have to be set, right? I'm curious to see who Chicago drops. With all the draft picks they had there's gotta be one deserving draftee who just got unlucky there. ... edit ... Apparently it's both - salary and roster compliance. But I didn't think you have to have the final roster completely set. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=2070423#post2070423
This is MLS. News will come out at 5 p.m. I'm just surprised they didn't make the cap compliant day a Friday for that special late-afternoon announcement.
Or, it indicates that Ezra Hendrickson is a defensive liability. Reyes was always pretty good at knowing when to go forward and when not to. Ezra has no idea that there's a difference. Not to mention that he's like Frankie Hejduk on the nats: I'm sure fans of his teams are always nervous that he's about to give up a penalty, get sent off, or get beaten. The cap was by far the overriding factor in letting Reyes go. Hendrickson may be a fast, athletic attacking right back, but that doesn't make him a good player.
Well we made our first official move of the day, though it wasn't unexpected. Alegria was waived. Perhaps other teams will follow shortly with press releases.
Faria was waived by SJ. I know he hasn't reported yet to camp but he could be that dangerous striker we need if he would come back to the US.
With Nowak's discipline first approach, I can't see him wanting a player that doesn't even bother to show up for San Jose's pre-season.
Gawd, if only we could get Ali back!!! The guys has got heart & imagine his speed with an offensive lineup that can counterattack with pace! What are the Burn thinking? First, trading Vaca away - unthinkable! Wasn't he their best player? And now, mabe this? I'm salivating, I only hope it is so!
