Thought I'd start a thread for any off-season moves CRS makes when I saw this tweet from Naimo.

I'm sure big events (like Chapman returning to England) will get/deserve threads of their own.

If it was a player signing.. they wouldn't announce it this early would they? But then again, if its Naimo saying big CRS news.. you know it has to deal with a player.

Agreed. Too bad she prefers midfield.. could you imagine our backline being Dalmy, Engen, Markgraf, and Chalupny? That'd be amazing. Even so though, I'd take her at mid anyday

With Chapman gone, CRS has a huge hole in midfield.

Also, I think Markgraf deserves an official retirement announcement from the USWNT (and CRS) It is clear from her twitter account discussion of her nose surgery that she's retiring.

    Chi - ca - go!
Would it be too much to ask the Head Coach of the Chicago Red Stars to have a Chicago Red Stars theme on his Twitter page rather than that of a defunct team?

Pretty sure he is the technical director.. Namazi's twitter some generic theme.

    But I understand your point.

OK. For the fun of it let's try to guess what this is about.

    I have a feeling it's a trade or a free agent aquisition.
We need to replace Katie Chapman in d-mid and Cristiane at forward and or get another goalkeeper.

    Possible moves:

    1. Trade or aquire for Lori Lindsey
    2. Trade or aquire for Leslie Osborne
    3. Loyden for Karina LeBlanc
    4. Trade or aquire for Lauren Cheney.

    Any other guesses?

This will probably have to wait until after the WC but I would like to see the redstars go after some of the German players. So maybe we should get under the salary cap.

You really want Cheney huh? I'm all for getting her.. but who would we trade for her?

Also, we won't get Osborne or Lindsey. LeBlanc could be a possibility.. because I definitely see her, along with McCleod, on the chopping blocks.. but I doubt we'll go after a GK. Do we know whether Solo is or isnt a free agent?

Anyways, I agree, I'd love to see them sign a Germany player down the road.

Don't forget, Charlie Naimo is now part of the decision making process. Anything can happen. There are a lot of players in the league who have played for him before. And I don't think he's shy about pulling the trigger on anyone to make the team better.

We have the rights, I believe to Carney. She could be trade bait. I like Rapinoe, but she could be trade bait. There maybe someone who really wants Loyden. Don't forget, we still have Kelsey Davis who can be a fine goalkeeper in this league.

A person like Leslie Osborne can help us as well in the d-mid spot.

I don't see the Breakers giving up Leslie Osborne. She is their respected team captain.
Also don't see philly giving up Lindsey.
The other 2 scenarios, perhaps ?!

The Red Stars have ALOT of college draft pics, including the #2 & 3 spots, so I'd imagine it would be in their interest to facilitate some trades, whether it be for a GK, center back, mid, or fwd (alot of gaps to fill from 2010).

I'd imagine they would try to utilize these draft pics before giving up players like Carney or Rapinoe.

Somehow I feel there will be several surprise moves this off-season throughout the league.
Things have changed since the beginning of last season. Teams, the league have restructured. Salaries are under question.
Where a team would not have given up/traded a player before or made a certain move, may be inclined to do so now.

I don't think anything is written in stone any more.

Osborne chose to go to Boston in 2010 - I don't see her changing her mind about that.

I agree, I think she is going to be in Boston next year and realistically, she has become the face of the Breakers in multiple media, and for Puma, with their headquarters there. I bet she has a multi-year contract. I also saw her hanging with Tony DiCicco and Lisa Cole at the Stanford SCU game the other week, chatting up a storm. In my simple mind, CRS have no chance of landing Leslie.

on the GK side... why not go after Ashlyn Harris, if she's a free agent? i know she's earned the starting spot in Washington, but with Gabarra gone...

CRS does hold a number of relations to Ashlyn too-- she played for Pali, is best friends with Whit Engen... plus the sheer fact that Whit, Casey, Nikki, and Jess McDonald are all in Chicago could have some pull, if she's even considering going anywhere.

Guess we'll have to wait and see!

According to Naimo's tweet today something will be announced today - says it is one of the best players / leaders he has ever coached. Not sure who it is going to be, but I have a feeling LeBlanc might end up n Chicago next year. She probably won't be in Philly and if she is a FA than Chicago wouldn't have to trade for her. I'm not saying the announcement today is LeBlanc or that she is a free agent, but for some reason the move makes sense to me.

I still think it's going to be a mid or forward.

I'm sure they will announce it later in the day.

How about Heather O'Reilly? He's coached her before, I believe.

Prescient much? Or did you have inside info? ;)

CRS get LeBlanc and give Philly the 3rd overall pick & the 19th overall pick (in 3rd round).

While it is no secret that I have not loved Loyden this past season, the 3rd overall pick and a third round pick might be a bit too much for LeBlanc. Maybe her injuries (and tendency to get 5-holed) are just 2010 only things. And I've liked her play in previous seasons.

    well here it is:

    http://www.womensprosoccer.com/Home/chicago/news/press_releases/101012-redstars-leblanc.aspx

Not exactly the news I was hoping for. We need a d-mid and another forward.
and in the last year or so all we've done is trade for goalkeepers.
    Why? Why? why?

We also traded a top draft pick.

Nothing personal to LeBlanc. She is an excellent keeper. But that's NOT what we need.

I'm not exactly a thrilled season ticket holder right now. This is not what I was building my excitement for.

We seem to have crossposted :D

I do think KK is an upgrade over Loyden and she'll definitely be great for fan relations and PR and so forth. I'm guessing Loyden may be on the trading block (or a free agent, perhaps?).

And with young players CRS needs some solid leadership. But yeah, two picks for her (and the 3rd overall) does seem a bit steep.

I think central midfield and left back are the two biggest concerns for CRS going forward.

I am not happy at all, it was not a need for Chicago... If loyden gets a call up and LeBlanc gets a call up for a US-Canada friendly or seperate games... chicago willcould have an issue during the season.
