Could I have explained it to him more calmly? Probably. But I was pretty fired up by then by the finger pointing and yelling from that side of 137 about what we were singing or were not singing, among other things.
Let me address this as it was me that originally razed Corey about the T-shirt signing- like Matt said, I thought it was our job to rip the opposing side and their fans. I also intended my razing as good natured ribbing, albeit a little on the rough side, for what seemed an obvious snafu after a home team loss. Plenty off people behind me seemed to agree with me, but everyone across the tunnel seemed to take it very offensively. After a lot more thought than I ever do about anything, I see where I was partially wrong: Our job as stated in the Almanac (and I paraphrase is to berate and harass the opposing team and their fans for the full ninety minutes (plus stoppage time). Corey got his shirt signed after the game ended so he was within his rights. In light of that I offer my public apology to Corey if I came across as offensive- I have alot of respect for the elders and the capos and the work they do keeping the SONs loud and boisterous. I really don't have a problem with him getting his t-shirt signed by Beckham, I just intended to bust his chops abit.
I'm almost glad that Huckerby retired before this season. As a Norwich supporter for 15 years I was hoping he'd stick around so I could get an autograph and a picture when he came to PPL. Guess his retirement may have saved me a lot of grief.
No he was wearing a red England Jersey, I think its a little out of line but he more than won me back returning with a bag of Merch. This whole Corey getting goldie locks autograph. I don't think it should be done at all (cause he's a wanker). But I think someone said it earlier but wait by the buses with all the 15 year old girls
I thought the t-shirt guy was pretty funny. It was even funnier to see security pulling each one off of him down between 133 and 134. The t-shirts being thrown around was cool too (minus the one that ended up on the field). Just like it makes the river end look like a cauldron when the flags are waving, when everyone is throwing shirts all over it looked really cool.
it was a red shirt with a small england crest covered by a union scarf. it was a stretch to give him shit
I think the appropriate response to Corey would be... "Hey Corey, did you just get Beckham's digits. Are you going to be another one of his red light excursions or are you working for free." All said with a smile....
I don't even know whose side of the argument you are on. +1 for a well thought out clear and descriptive post!
Um...if you are participating in the songs, don't worry. If you aren't participating in the songs, move to another section. There are a lot of people in the River End that want to participate, and having blocks of people that are quiet makes it a lot harder.
We don't need a song for corners. We just need noise. Just yell. It was awesome for like one game... As for SOB VIPs getting autographs from opposing players, come on. If Corey wants to get Beckham's autograph, fine. But if someone wants to go apeshit on him for doing so, that's totally legit. Grow a pair. I get that the SOB elders are all buddies and want to stick up for each other, but getting the "enemy's" autograph in your own stadium is grounds for copious amounts of verbal abuse. Especially when it's Beckham.
Matt -- I appreciate your post. And I appreciate an elder reaching out. I know the bulk of 136 want to be as much a part of TRE and SoB as possible...but we are also pretty creative folk. Bear, for sure, kills it every game day. As does Ben on the Big Drum. We have so much energy and passion -- just need that bridge to the center. I suggest that maybe we have an off-season meeting with the elders and maybe reps from each SoB section. Just once...and start building stronger relationships among the sections. Just a thought. And to everyone in this post -- all of us around TShirt man did not expect it to explode like it did...and we did stop when it got a bit out of control. And it settled down once it was over. Now -- it was probably one of the most hilarious things I have ever been a part of at a sporting event...and I think we wanted to let him know how awesome it was. But I can tell you now -- it was a one time thing. Purely organic. Purely spur of the moment.
All I am saying is that any time I do anything...someone bitches, whether its a song...a shirt or what ever...didn't try to offend anyone last night...but I for one have more important things to do in my life than let some petty shit bother me. I could have taken some ball busting, but when someone told me they were going to Kill me i went APE SHIT! Again i apologize...and you wont have to put up with me anymore...im OUT!
Ummm...DCU also does a few others we do too. And the one you talk about originated in south america/Mexico. I am a fan of that chant on set peices. Sorry.
you cant leave you're our good looks that bring out the chicks and distracts the homo's on the opposing team on corners and set peaces. IE you're our what ever beer it is getting poured into a glass to distract the pk taker. Granted you maybe a homo for getting that autograph but it explains your fashionable style and how you're eye brows always look so even. not that I've noticed or anything....
Dude, that's horrible, and it sucks that you're out. I know where it originated. In MLS, as far as I know, it is unique to DCU. Look, you can do whatever you want (but if you do continue that chant can you please learn to do it right, watch the video, you're missing the la-la la-la-la ooh oh-oh line )
I was standing in 135 last night and was very disappointed. The majority of the section was silent for a good portion of the second half. That said, I still enjoyed myself more than the times I had tickets in 136.
I agree, and I was going to say that I'd rip on my own mother for getting that ******************** to sign anything. wait a minute, people are ripping on some dude for being english? we a guy from london over in 139, I call him ray the yid. we get into it over west ham, and spurs shit, but it's an act. we get on real well, and the dude is a riot. I can't imagine anyone giving anyone shit because they're not from this country. that is just some bullshit, that's gonna piss a lot of people off, and eventually end with a fight. this... for the millionth f uckinging time, this ^ over and over again. - I just want to say, that I've been seeing a lot of SoB snobbiness coming out of here. I'm sick of seeing people, and sick of hearing people, say to me and other people that "that's not an SoB chant" one of the reasons I'm not moving out of 139 is because it's so quiet out in our end, I can usually throw up chants on the spot, and have a few people join in. you won't find any other league in the world outside of the MLS where supporters chant the same thing, in unison. that's just ridiculous.
cant believe I missed the game last night....t-shirt man..Beckham.. etc! I'm sorry everyone is in a tizzy about our section. I cant comment on last night's game other than to say that the two SoBs down front with the blue and gold helmets were the second thing shown on the ESPN broadcast (after the obligatory city skyline shot).....and t-shirt man made it on the ESPN broadcast too. From in front of the TV, our section looked exactly like what we would want the opposition (team and fans) to see....that is insanity, passion and fun. All in all this year, my experience from row H has been largely positive (although I do think we could do without the 136 chant). There will always be people and things that go up your arse, but that's life I guess. I too would be willing to meet with anyone to discuss our section. I do not see the need to get angry and worked up about any of this.
