LOL, 6000? Really? I guess I'm spoiled watching the EPL every week but my gosh... that's not even MLS standard. lol.
You feel it to? Our biggest star will not be there, a lot of people are probably not enthused about seeing the same coach (even if they don't hate him, it's the same old same old), Columbia isn't exactly fielding a Carlos V for star power, US Soccer tix prices are damn high, no real comps on the horizon this year, a ton of soccer exposure and games to go to, and you have what you have. I definitely feel the low ebb. Would I rather go to a Nats match versus Col/Poland or a RB match right now if I had to choose. I would probably go see RB play (I'm a NY fan). Of course I am very interested in watching but I don't feel the need to haul myself there. Where is this anyway? Is this at PPL in Philly? Big Columbian pop in NYC. Should have played it there. Probably will be a decent walk up. I get the apathy. Only so much time and $$$ to go round. Especially after this years excitement.
Didn't know that. Anyone televising? I'm still debating going to watch the RB/RSL match. To much stress, work and traveling this week to rush down there. I really want to go but sometimes enough's enough. Hell, maybe it will sell out anyway. I wouldn't be surprised. That is the first time I can legitimately say that, and feel that way, in my 15 years of following the craptacular that used to be NY. I hope DC/NE fans can feel this joy one day. Oh yeah. Sh**y economy also. I have the cash but just because I have it doesn't mean I continually want to spend that much. I stopped going to virtually all NBA, NHL and NFL games about 15 years ago because I was sick of paying the prices, even though I could. I love and have always supported US Soccer and MLS, but even I need a break. Hell, I can spend much less at the RB game (tix, beer, you name it) and watch a game that really matters, with star power, and two very good sides. OK, I've convinced myself. I'm going to try and get to the RB match. Weather looks good.
Chicago sales are low too, which is surprising considering the size of the Polish community here. I was expecting 40k plus, but as of now it looks like they'll get 30k if they're lucky. I'm more excited about the Poland game(mostly because I'm going to it), but I think Colombia should be a really good test for us. I caught part of the Colombia-Mexico game on TV a couple weeks ago, and Colombia's style of play reminded me of Brazil. They had big athletic players with tons of skill. Despite losing, I thought they outplayed Mexico for the parts of the game I saw.
... but I am hopeful that this is the Bradley effect ... or the result of the last performance ... a huge negative ...
No, it's just the situation and time of year. It's probably a good thing we didn't play during the September period and November will just be a single road game. Even most of the "core" fans probably won't tune back in until March (February if we play someone of note) as the Gold Cup build-up becomes a little more pronounced.
It's kind of frustrating to live in a city (Austin) that will probably never see a national team game in my lifetime and watch a city like Philly fail to support the national team for a truly interesting friendly. They packed the Linc for the Turkey match but now can't get 20K for Colombia? I get that there's no World Cup hype, but this doesn't make sense to me. I wonder about the local marketing effort a bit. It being on ESPN, you would think there would be some sort of buzz from ABC / Disney at least. And SFS, the people who would make a decision to attend a national team game based on the name of the coach probably already post on this board and number in the 100's nationally.
Don't feel bad,the women's national team only drew 2K the other night against the Chinese National Team.
In the video in this article,Jonathan Tannewald mentions that 6K tickets have been sold so far. There's still 5 day's left before the game. http://www.philly.com/philly/sports...ssist_on_Galaxy_s_game-winner_over_Union.html
I guess it's safe to assume the country in general (outside of Bigsoccer) has gone back to not caring. Congrats to 4 more years of anonymity! Of course, it's just as possible that the turnout is so low because it's a post-WC friendly with nothing on the line, hence apathy.
I can add that the Union have been promoting this event at every game and via email to us season ticket holders. The ticket prices are VERY high, compared to the Union tickets. I have seats to this game and paid almost double for seats one row behind my season ticket seats. It was the same for the womens game, I would have went to the game but it cost WAAAAAAY to much for a family of 4 to go. I would have thought sales would have been better..... I bought 4 tix for the mens and ended up selling 2 on stubhub this past week because someone backed out on me. They sold in less than 24hrs for a profit. It made me wonder if folks even know where to buy tix from? The Union ticket office handled it and it was not listed on any major ticket outlet (Ticketmaster). I still say it is price.... 2010 was the worst ever for concert ticket sales, they just cost toooooo much.
There are several reason: The economy is bad Over priced tickets Its a midweek game The Union just played against the Galaxy to a sold out crowd Fans are not happy that Bradley is back Big names are not on the roster and finally These games are nothing more than training games for Bradley to look at new players meaning Bradley does'n't care if they win and there is nothing worst than to watch a team thats not trying to win
Let me put it the other way. An exciting, effective, goal scoring team generates interest. A dull, chaotic team doesn't. The last USMNT performance (vs. Brazil in NJ) was dull and chaotic. Thus, the marketing of the event is a lot more difficult. Are there other variables? Absolutely. Is Bob/anti-Bob one of them? I would surmise so. How many registered members are on the BS? According to Wikipedia, about 150,000. How many lurkers - readers but not posters - are on the BS? Double or triple that number? Once again, according to Wikipedia, the 2006 WC alone generated over 1.2 million unique visitors. What was the "unscientific" Bradley poll that MO started last summer, about 9% pro retention and 91% against it? Now, you try to sell tickets to these 91% of ~ 500,000. You need bullet points. And you ain't got any.
