Well, ESPN3.com have now added 3 matches to the Friday, October 8th schedule. So yet again a change. ESPN Deportes will show the match on SDD at 2pm ET. SA www.socceraction.info
FoxSoccer.tv will be showing six Euro 2012 qualifiers this Friday/Saturday according to their schedule, three of which will also be seen on ESPN3. Friday, October 8 Moldova vs. Netherlands - 2:30 PM EST * Serbia vs. Estonia - 2:30 PM EST Greece vs. Latvia - 2:45 PM EST Northern Ireland vs. Italy - 2:45 PM EST * Portugal vs. Denmark - 3:45 PM EST * Saturday, October 9 Israel vs. Croatia - 3:05 PM EST * also on ESPN3
Make that seven qualifiers on FoxSoccer.tv (four of which will also be on ESPN3) as they revised their schedule: Friday, October 8 Moldova vs. Netherlands - 2:30 PM EST * Montenegro vs. Switzerland - 2:30 PM EST * Serbia vs. Estonia - 2:30 PM EST Greece vs. Latvia - 2:45 PM EST Northern Ireland vs. Italy - 2:45 PM EST * Portugal vs. Denmark - 3:45 PM EST * Saturday, October 9 Israel vs. Croatia - 3:05 PM EST * also on ESPN3
Not quite sure how ESPN and NewsCorp would end up with online rights to the same games (ESPN's deals with SportFive, Kentaro, etc. clearly gives them TV rights too).
Ireland-Russia added to FoxSoccer.tv. Eight qualifiers this weekend, five of which are on ESPN3. Friday, October 8 Moldova vs. Netherlands - 2:30 PM EST * Montenegro vs. Switzerland - 2:30 PM EST * Serbia vs. Estonia - 2:30 PM EST Greece vs. Latvia - 2:45 PM EST Republic of Ireland vs. Russia - 2:45 PM EST * Northern Ireland vs. Italy - 2:45 PM EST * Portugal vs. Denmark - 3:45 PM EST * Saturday, October 9 Israel vs. Croatia - 3:05 PM EST * also on ESPN3
It could be as a result of the EPL deal that FOX gets broadband rights to some ESPN3 matches. Just speculating, though.
At the very least, Fox and ESPN may have made some kind of deal or property swap....some of the matches that are listed exclusively for foxsoccer.tv were part of the same packages acquired by ESPN; these matches were originally listed on the ESPN3 lineup before being removed. The question I have is whether the matches exclusively on foxsoccer.tv (not only Euro qualifiers, but French Ligue 1 matches) are available to be shown on TV as well. I would think that Fox wants to have exclusive matches to make their product more attractive, and its soccer (not rugby) matches that will sell. But with Fox Soccer Plus going for $15/month by most providers for a station that is more rugby than soccer, they could at least show some of these matches on delay on FS+.
The incestuous behavior of the NewsCorp (FOX Sports in the US, Latin America, and Australia; Sky Sports in the UK, Italy, Germany, Mexico, Central America, and New Zealand; ESPN STAR Sports in Asia)-Disney (ESPN Inc. in the US, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK) sports TV "cartel" all over the world never ceases to amaze me. The two companies seem to find new ways to partner with each other in order to extend their control of more and more sports TV properties each day.
Normally these kinds of monopolies drive me crazy--good luck being able to listen to music on the radio when it is time for commercials since the radio stations are all owned by the same two corporations and program commercials across those stations at the same time. When it comes to soccer, however, the more games we get with high quality images the better. So whatever they do in terms of working together is cool by me. I'm just bummed they are using broadband for most of these games rather than showing the games on TV (although Deportes has been showing more Euro qualifiers than I/we expected prior to qualifying).
Don't see the game on ESPN3 or Fox - anyone got any insight? Why would ESPN list a game and then drop it entirely.....it's one thing if someone else has bought it from them, but if that's not the case then I'm a bit miffed about the process. Thanks.
Forgot the Mexico friendly. Also, Iceland-Portugal is appearing on the ESPN Deportes on-screen guide on DirecTV, not the Faroe-N. Ireland match. BTW I just added HD programming today. I'm not seeing the England-Montenegro game listed on 621-1. Is this game not being shown in HD or is the on-screen guide wrong?
did this end up happening? I turned on ESPN2 in the 4:00 hour and saw Michelle Beadle and Sports Nation edit: nevermind. I see this started at 2:25 not 2:55
The game was on live here (in 4:3) with Andrew Orsatti and Shaka Hislop commentating offtube from Bristol, CT. ESPN International website was also listed ESPN2 to be taking the game live but if they did I could not tell you
I have a question that I hope someone can answer (huhe888 maybe?) Does anybody actually have rights to any European qualifiers in Canada, aside from England home games which are on PPV and re-aired on Setanta a couple days later. In other words, would it be possible for Setanta, GolTV, Euroworld Sports etc. to go and buy rights to a certain team's games, or does ESPN have North American rights which prevents them from doing this?
