Nice to see that the Monday game on ESPN3.com a few weeks ago was only a "one time thing." What programming on Monday afternoon on ESPN2 is so important that they can't show an EPL game they have the rights to?
ESPN HD is running news, talk, and magazine shows and early editions of SportsCenter to build up to Monday Night Football. Some of the talk shows that air regularly on ESPN HD are bumped to ESPN2 HD on Mondays during the NFL Season. Those talk shows draw twice to 3 times the number of viewers (400K-600K) compared to an EPL match NOT involving one of the "big" clubs (200K viewers). == Remember that ESPN, Inc. originally did NOT want to sublicense the 12 Monday night EPL matches for the U.S. market (based on my interpretation of what EPLTalk.com reported in January 2010, ESPN Inc. originally wanted Saturdays at 7:30am ET and 10am ET as well as Sundays at 8:30am ET), but FSI didn't want them either and FSI basically forced ESPN, Inc. to take the Monday night EPL matches (for an additional $1 million or so in sublicense fee.)
The Monday games will probably return during the winter/spring (January-May), although since teams still involved in Europe will rarely appear, there IS a possibility that ESPN will write those games off and keep them online-only. UK-televised games from Christmas through Round 37 seem to be announced 1-2 months in advance.
I also don't subscribe, but will definitely do so in November and December as the following matches will be on FS+: Sunday, Nov. 7: Arsenal vs. Newcastle United Sunday, Nov. 14: Arsenal at Everton Sunday, Nov. 21: Arsenal vs. Tottenham (another forum lists this match on both FS+ and ESPN2, so I'm not sure about this one) Sunday, Dec. 26: Arsenal vs. Chelsea
http://static.foxsports.com/content...1/Week40-October10-FSC-Clean1285093075388.pdf says there is a Serie A game on before and makes it seem like the coverage will start at 11:00, not 10:55.
How I love America, where people would rather watch people talk about sports than actually watch sports.
This has been moved to 1:30pm GMT - 9.30 AM ET on police insisteance. Hope it's still going to be televised live here in the USA.
BSkyB have swapped the kickoff times for its two EPL matches on October 31. Sunday October 31 7:55am ET - Aston Villa vs Birmingham - FOXsoccer.tv (SDD Time TBA on FS+) 9:25am ET - Newcastle vs Sunderland - FS+ HD & FOXsoccer.tv 11:55am ET - Bolton vs Liverpool - FSC HD & FOX Deportes
You have just reiterated my biggest pet peeve. And it is nowhere more apparent than on the Spanish-language channels. When ESPN had the CL, Deportes would constantly chop the first 5 minutes from the 2nd half of games, yet would easily show 15 minutes worth of pre-game, half-time, and post-game junk. They had a 2 hour slot so there was no reason to chop 5 minutes from the game itself. They could have just cut highlights of previous rounds from the pre-game. There was never a need to cut commercials, just their announcers talking about the game(s) and instead actually show the game(s). But the worst offender by far is FSE. Again, they have a 2 hour slot for every game, and yet unless one watches Copa Libertadores or Copa Sudamericana games live/records the game live, there is no way to see a complete game because every re-broadcast will be edited (3-5 minutes from each half). Again, if they need commercial time, cool. But don't cut the game, just cut the analysis from the pre-game, half-time, and post-game. And then there are the news shows that repeat ad nauseum on Gol and FSC and yet the early Europa League Gol TV game airs 1 time or FSC will air an EPL game 1 time.
ESPN2's coverage of Sunderland v Manchester United looks like it's just getting underway now. ESPN2 has college football set for 12 noon ET. The broadcast window for Sunderland v Manchester United was set for 9:55 AM ET to 12 PM ET. I'm guessing that someone picked this game, not realizing there were 15 minutes of pregame at the stadium. Luckily, I have ESPN3.
There was an unscheduled extended pregame due to a pipe being broken in the Manchester United locker room causing a flood. For some reason they decided to delay the kickoff for this - Ian Darke brought up why couldn't the players still come out and play. Because the match didn't kickoff until 10:17 am ET - theres no way the match will end before 12:00 pm ET. Since ESPN2 has a college football game scheduled for 12:00 pm ET - expect this match to be moved to ESPN Classic once 12:00 pm ET hits. No way the football game doesn't start on ESPN2 at 12:00 pm ET. Better to piss off the low number of soccer fans compared to the many number of football fans. I have ESPN Classic so I'll be able to switch over - if they don't switch over to there and just tell us to go to go online to ESPN3 - then thats ok with me as well. Looks like we get no studio for the 9:55 am ET games - they had Darke and McMannaman (who are unseen and at the stadium) cover the first half highlights and scores of other games being played. No mention yet of whats going to happen once 12:00 pm ET hits. LB...
One would expect Liverpool and Man City to be slotted on Monday nights during February, March, and April; particularly on the weekends following UEFA Europa League match days. I had suspected that ESPN, Inc. had no intention of ever putting Monday night EPL matches not involving the "Big 4" or Man City on ESPN2 HD during September-December because the talk shows draw twice to 3 times as many viewers compared to those matches. == In my opinion, the EPL should get rid of Monday night matches completely. Most supporters don't like them (because they have jobs and many of them can't attend games on Monday nights), the smaller clubs don't particularly like them (because the supporters don't like to buy tickets to watch them at the stadiums), and the international broadcasters in the Americas (FSI and ESPN, Inc.) and Asia (3am or 4am Hong Kong/Singapore time on Tuesday mornings) don't really want them.
This is shaping up to be a classic battle - especially since in this case I would rather see the Miami-Clemson game than listen to the dulcet tones of one Ian Darke. I think if this were another college football game bleeding over, the Miami-Clemson game would start on Classic/broadband until the previous game finished. I can't wait to see what happens as either result will please me - one for short term and one for the long term.
My prediction, along with the others, is that the game will continue on ESPN3 and hopefully ESPN Classic. Hopefully they'll run a ticker on ESPN2 informing viewers what to do. It's strange that they didn't START the game on ESPN Classic as well. There is no way that ESPN delays NCAA football in this situation.

FWIW, i'm following the match on ESPN3 with no sound, while watching college football pregame on TV.
What the hell. I'll go out on a limb and say ESPN2 will stick with the EPL to its conclusion. Once that final whistle goes, off they go to college football. Eh, I have nothing to lose, right? EDIT: Literally seconds after I post, the scroll comes on.
