interesting - though this was their pattern last year too - a trickle of games in September and October then almost nothing until spring.

College basketball (men and women) and high school basketball start in the middle of November. Once conference play starts in January, ESPN2 will be loaded with hoops.

The women's NCAA Division I basketball tournament runs from March through the first weekend in April.

ESPN2 will also women's college volleyball and college soccer championships in December.

Australian Open tennis air on ESPN2 during the last two weeks of January.

ESPN, Inc. uses La Liga to fill time on ESPN or ESPN2 on Sundays during September and October basically to fill unsold air time opposite NFL and NASCAR.

That's a pretty accurate description of things. Then they will come back with some more La Liga games in May and April (whichever day Real Madrid/Barcelona is playing). The tentative plan is about 15-20 games per season.

Does anyone know if GolTV's contract inlcudes the final now. I seem to remember that in previous years that it didn't.

And yea I would say its almost a certainty that ESPN3.com has the games that ESPN International is producing. Otherwise it would make no sense for GolTV to not have the Barcelona and Atletico Madrid games.

TV rights to Copa del Rey matches through the semifinal round are controlled by each home club. Because every La Liga club has agreed to hire MEDIAPRO to market international TV rights, MEDIAPRO is able to sell all those rights to GOLTV, Inc. as a single package.

TV rights to the Copa del Rey Final is controlled by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). The RFEF uses Santa Monica Sports as its exclusive agent for the marketing of TV rights worldwide.

In recent years, Santa Monica Sports has not been able to sell the TV rights to the Copa del Rey final to any entity in the U.S.

As a result, the Copa del Rey final will once again be available exclusively on TVE Internacional-Americas via tape delay (8:30pm Eastern Time on the East Feed for DIRECTV and DISH Network subscribers as well as cable subscribers in the Eastern, Central, and most of the Mountain Time Zones, 7:30pm Pacific Time on the West Feed for cable subscribers in Arizona and the Pacific Time Zone.)

Looking ahead to Round 13 (weekend of November 27/28) and El Clasico, the match to be played at Camp Nou has been quite a topic locally as Parliamentary elections for Catalunya are scheduled to take place on Sunday Nov 28th.
With this in mind, there's speculation that Barça-Real will be played on Monday the 29th with a 21:00 kickoff time (3pm eastern U.S.). The official schedule won't be finalized until two weeks before the weekend but the Monday date/time has been welcomed by both clubs as well as political officials and television broadcasters Canal+ and Gol TV (Spain).

According to the link I provided Saturday isn't favored (or rather, Sunday more preferred) by both clubs since they will be coming off Champions League week. This combined with nothing scheduled for the following midweek (Tue Nov 30-Thurs Dec 2) to dissuade a Monday kickoff.
The politicos also wish El Clasico not to disrupt things a day prior to the elections (let alone election day itself).

I saw one more update watching the MLS playoff game last night on ESPN2. Right now the schedule on ESPN.com has nothing from 3:30-6pm. Hopefully it's true, but I guess take it with a grain of salt until it's fully confirmed.
