do you maniacs realize that with our current midfield condition not even Edison Arantes do Nascimento, Ferenc Puskas nor Di Stefano could of put 34 goals up there this year?

Tony Caig in 2009-2010 gave up zero goals in 17 appearances for Workington in England...any takers?

Workington??? This is literally Division 9 and 10. What is Tony thinking? The HFA teams here in Houston would probably beat up these teams.

Not the only one, I said last year it was a bad trade, and have probably bored people with the number of times I've said Dom never gave Wondo a real chance. He never played more than 300 minutes in MLS a year. Wondo just never fit into Dom's idea of what a forward is (big and strong or very fast).

I've seen many posts about how Wondo probably wouldn't have done this with Houston because of Houston's midfield. Are you saying that San Jose's midfield (before they acquired Stephenson and Geovanni) was better? Come on, Wondo played in front of a midfield of Convey, Brandon McDonald, Joey Gjertsen and a rotating attacking midfielder between Andre Luiz, Sam Cronin, and a couple of others for most of the year. It's hard to believe that a midfield of Davis, Palmer, Mullan/Cruz, and a rotating attacking midfield of others on the Houston side is worse.

And Wondo played alongside a bunch of crappy forwards (Cornell Glen and Ryan Johnson) for most of the year as well, until the past few weeks. Yes, NOW San Jose's front 6 lineup of Convey, Cronin (dmid, not amid), Stephenson, Geovanni, Wondo and Eduardo/Ryan Johnson is playing well, but for most of the year there were only 1 or 2 good goal scoring chances a game. I've watched most of San Jose's matches this year on Direct Kick, so I know what I've seen.

For those of you who didn't see Wondo's match against Toronto, what was most amazing about his hat trick is that he did it from the right midfield position, and he played a lot of defense. He made a great sliding tackle on Chad Barrett in the box to take away a 1 v 1 with the keeper, and he helped to mostly shut down DeRosario. As we all saw in the Reserve matches in Houston, the guy just knows how to score. He's gotten a lot better defensively and in knowing where to make runs and move off the ball, and he just looks like a very good player right now. It's hard to believe that he couldn't be making a similar impact in Houston.

Credit to Dom for drafting him and keeping him, and to Spencer for working with him to develop him. But they really should have given him more of a chance to play and see what he could do.

    Luis Angel Landin - 0

    :(

    :p

revisionist history. at the time that he was traded, he was 3rd or 4th on our depth charge behind Ching, Landin and Oduro. no one owns a crystal ball and could of foreseen what was to become of Landin or the frustrations some have with Oduro.

Dom had a chance to get a guy (Cam Weaver) that was regarded as a player to look out for, someone who had a track record of scoring and some Euro experience in the Viking league and he took it. we can't constantly look back and nit-pick all the ones that do not turn out our way. for what makes sense now, may have not made sense then.

    Dalglish loses coaching job

.... and the scoring posts are ridiculous. This should be significant items, not goal summaries

It's not revisionist history when I posted the same thing last year at the time of the trade, that I thought it was a bad trade and Dom never gave Wondo a chance. Yes, he was 4th on the depth chart, but my point was WHY was he that low? Anyway, I'll stop posting about Wondo and the mistake Dom made.

On a different note, I ran into this article that talks about John Michael Hayden playing with the Louisville Lightning in the spring of this year, in the indoor league. Pretty big dropoff from being drafted in the Superdraft as a #1 pick to where he is now.

Also, Eric Ustruck is with the Tampa Bay Rowdies (Dalglish's team that he was recently fired from), he's only played in 5 matches this year according to their website.

He had a bad injury year. When he was finally healed up from his first ( or second ) injury he broke his leg.

Any updates on Rico Clark? I haven't heard his name anywhere lately after he departed from Germany. Is he getting minutes?

Hopefully he is getting the paycheck he wants but I see nothing good about going overseas and rotting on the bench.

Not to mention the logjam of talent at CM on the USMNT. Without PT he will probably be left out.

Last thing he needs is to be sitting. We may have too few quality forwards and defenders on the NT, but we have more than enough midfielders. And Jones looked good the past couple games.

But them's the breaks. For every Holden or Dempsey there's Adu and Eddie Johnson who flop abroad. And even players like Gooch or Donovan can rise and fall. Gooch started out modest and strong in Europe and then had to go to Milan. Landon had many flops, including the loan to Bayern, before the positive spell at Everton......who then weren't willing to pay the actual bill for him.

Was not on the bench in their 3:0 away win in Kaiserslautern today.

Here is the Alumni List that I have, if you have any updates feel free to add.

Alcaraz - I think tried his hand in Australia not sure where he is now.
Caraccio - I think is/was on a leave of absence from Foggia, currently not shown on their roster page.
Kpene - went to Europe and trialed with some BL2 and below teams in Germany and supposedly headed elsewhere.
    Waibel - stay tuned.

Interesting article on who will be "in" and "out" for the Timbers in 2011:

    http://www.droppingtimber.com/2010/10/mls-2011-in-out.html
    "On the bubble"

Kevin Goldthwaite – Brought on late in the year, Goldthwaite is a solid talent with good size, speed, and instincts. He has a lot of MLS experience and had a great showing in the final playoff game against Vancouver, starting and playing the full 90. “Goldy” has very good chance to be on the roster in 2011. He and Futty would provide a good starting foundation for the middle of the defense.
