FIFA isn't ashamed because they purposely chose a referee that had no future to begin with. He was the scapegoat for FIFA's plan to bring success to the Asian markets.
He deserves jail. He should have been arrested much sooner. And yes, karma caught up with him. So good to see at least some justice being served. WC2002 should be disconsidered or replayed.
We all knew (at least I did) that eventually the law would catch up to him. He quit being a referee shortly after WC2002 to get into politics. That alone told you he wasn't on the up and up.
I find it funny how Italy and Spain were victims of extremely controversial refereeing vs. Korea in that tournament...and then they go and win the next two tournaments.
Yeah, I know. Unfortunately. But 2002 is still the most discreted WC ever. It was so clear to see how arranged Korea's progress was. Not to mention other Italy matches from the Group stage. Exactly what I've been thinking. That's karma for you again, this time working the other way.
2002 was pretty clearly the "let's stick it to Europe" World Cup. Portugal got shafted, too, if I recall. And Spain was even more robbed than Italy, imho.
