Re: CCL Match 9/21/10 Santos @ Columbus [R] :: Pre/In Match Thread THAT is how do you it, Massive! Congrats! Toronto got the first for MLS, but you guys can claim the first-ever win for a team over Mexican opposition in the CCL era. Enjoy it! And now, although Columbus has two away games left to two home ones for Santos, you've got the inside track on 1st place in the group/avoiding a Mexican team in the quarterfinals/getting the second leg of that series at Crew Stadium.
Re: CCL Match 9/21/10 Santos @ Columbus [R] :: Pre/In Match Thread Top of the group... Certainly a nice way to ease the pain of the seattle sham.
Brian...I don't feel so good... But in all seriousness, I can't believe I watched Mendoza and Garey NOT score for 86 minutes beforehand. There was more divine anger towards the Crew tonight, above and beyond the usual bought-and-paid officiating.
I don't remember Burns much in the second half. That was probably a good thing. Also, Francis has some deceptive recovery speed. There were at least 3 times I thought he would get beat to a ball but he outran the attacker each time easily.
Team defense was very good tonight. Frankie was strong all game. Hopefully Chad is okay. I would have rested him (and Gaven).
Verguenza dulce, mi amigos. Screw Laguna, if not this tournament. This was much-needed medecine, given recent events. It wasn't enough, but it was needed. I'm glad Mendoza scored, because I was beginning to worry that the scoring ineptitude was roster-wide. Props to Brunner for a tackle that scared me to death, near the end, but may have saved the proper result that we so badly needed. Not so bad . . . but not enough. I'll take it, though. Sweet revenge.
Other than Gaven's card, I'd agree with that statement. Things started to get out of hand in the last 10 minutes or so, however.
I like Eddie's reaction to everything that went against him in the second half. He was nearly doubled over laughing a couple of times. His card was stupid, that's for sure.
While I don't disagree that Andy should get some MLS time, I'm trying to remember a time when he was seriously tested tonight.
I'd say it's the aggregate performance from Andy that has earned him some MLS PT. He's been fantastic in every match in the USOC and CCL.
I'm mostly concerned about Marshall. He was wearing a "concussion face" as they led him off. If so, I don't think there's much doubt that his season is over. With his history it just can't be risked. To hell with this game and to hell with CCL. Marshall is more important.
