Don't remember that. May have happened. Just don't remember it. Monterrey played in the CISL in 1997 and resurfaced in the WISL in 1999. I don't remember them being announced as an NPSL team for 1998-99, but they were certainly one of The Usual Suspects around that time, it could very well have happened.
Now that I think about it I think I read it in Shootout Magazine. For fun here's the Twisters NPSL release: http://replay.waybackmachine.org/19981202023011/http://www.npsl.com/news/indiana.html
This was our release, which I figure I must have written. The years 1996-2002 are a little hazy for me. INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - February 18, 1998 In an effort to provide year-round soccer entertainment to the Indiana community, MorSports, Inc. has purchased the Indiana Twisters professional indoor soccer team from the Cook family. The announcement came today at a crowded press conference at Alcatraz Brewing Company in downtown Indianapolis. Kim Morris, President of MorSports, also owns the Indiana Blast and Indiana Blaze outdoor teams, which compete in the United Systems of Independent Soccer Leagues (USISL). MorSports has applied for Morris' newest team to join the National Professional Soccer League, America's premier indoor league. "MorSports is looking forward to joining the NPSL and bringing the best in indoor soccer to Indiana," said Morris, who holds a Master's Degree in Education from Ball State and has a business background in advertising and marketing. "Now with our indoor team joining the Blast and the Blaze, soccer fans in Indiana will get to follow the game year-round, and root for the familiar players they've come to know and love." The Twisters began as a Continental Indoor Soccer League expansion team in 1996. Dan and Kim and Carl and Margie Cook purchased the club in September of 1996 after the original owners pulled out with six games to play in the inaugural season. The Cooks will acquire an interest in MorSports in the transaction. The CISL ceased operations on December 23, 1997, leaving its 11 teams without a place to play. "We didn't want to leave Indiana soccer fans 'twisting' in the wind," said Morris,"so we are thrilled about moving the team to the NPSL." Jimmy McDonald, the Head Coach of the Indiana Blast, will add duties as coach of the indoor team, and expects to bring back many of the players who led the Twisters to a 17-11 record and a CISL playoff berth in 1997. Already, forward Matt Blackbourne, Midfielder Scott Lawler, and Defender Joe Callahan have agreed to return, and Blackbourne and Lawler will see action outdoors with the Blast this summer. Negotiations are underway with both Market Square Arena and the Pepsi Coliseum at the Indiana State Fairgrounds to serve as the site for the team's expected 20-game NPSL home schedule, Morris said. All former season ticket holders of the Twisters will be contacted by mid-to-late March regarding plans for the 1998-99 indoor season. With the change in ownership and league, this website will be revised in the near future. I remember this being a rumor, I didn't know it was announced though didn't happen. Crazy. I thought it was claimed to at some point that Seattle was seriously coming to the NPSL to. Didn't happen either (obviously)
First time I heard of/read that! BTW, the best part about looking at that old release on the NPSL site was going back to that 98 draft class.....DeRosario first round pick of the Drillers! Those picks were always my favorite. I gotta find the media guide, but I think one year the Crunch drafted John Harkes. Favorite draft: 1997-98 Brandon Prideaux, Jeff Cunningham, Mike Petke, Clint Mathis
Actually true. There were reps from Seattle, Portland, and Sacramento at a Attack game, and even was mentioned as part of the halftime interview with the Attack owner. As you said, didn't happen...
