I see mention of the fine/suspension on twitter but don't see a link to a press release mentioned on twitter. The main website's Discipline page does list it. I imagine a link to the actual press release will show up tomorrow. Well done to the league for stepping up here. Solo should pay her fine/etc rather than appeal it. And then we can all draw a line under this event.
Glad to see the league finally taking a stand. It really took an extreme outburst to finally make it happen, I thought the league has let quite a bit go with Solo, Rampone, and maybe others already.
A $2500 fine. That should have some teeth, given how little these gals get paid! It seems harsh in comparison with the fine on TD earlier, but of course he didn't accuse anyone of criminal misconduct, just incompetence. I hope this puts the matter to rest. It is a significant response to a transgression that required some action. For myself, I say, you go Hope! Excellent soccer; entertaining antics; who is next?
hahahaha! Can this get any better??? Matty suggested that Hope's community service should be as a ball girl at the Super Semifinal in Boston....stationed in front of The Dock of course! If she's able to get comparable money in Europe and not lose US endorsments I fully expect her to leave WPS.... But if not...I eagerly await her return to Boston!
I believe Rampone was 'disciplined' for her comments and they were deleted from her twitter feed. I didn't check the WPS Discipline page at the time so I don't know if she was fined. For the record, Solo's remarks are still on her twitter feed--all of them, not just the ones from the recent Washington game. DiCicco was fined $1000 (plus community service & 1 game ban) for his second offense (so a total of $1750 for 2 fines). I don't know what his 3rd offense fine would have been since he hasn't been caught again. But I completely agree that accusing the league & ref of match fixing is far worse than just saying the refs are incompetent.
Why not leave them up? She's got nothing to lose now - she should get her money's worth (unless they said she's be fined again if she leaves them up, which is doubtful). re: Tony Dicicco. Can't you just picture him picking up trash along the side of the road? I mean, what would he do for community service? I'm sure they're very liberal about how you can spend your service time.
Antonucci: Hello, it's Tonya. Listen, I'm gonna need you to do the game in Maryland this weekend. Ref: OK Antonucci: And listen, DC is one of the only places that covers our game. We need to get them into the playoffs. Ref: Got it. Antonucci: I'll make sure there's a little something extra in your envelope this week. Ref: Some of the candids from Hope Solo's last photo shoot? Antonucci: You wish.
I am willing to bet a dollar that Solo doesn't know how to remove them. She only tweets by text, so I am not even sure if she knows the webpage exists.
9/12/10 9/25/12 Oh, Hope. You have matured so much in two years!! I also wonder if the $2,500 fine turned you into a referee apologist. I guess it just depends on the whether. As in whether we are winning or losing. In sports... a winisawin. Don't complain about the refs too much. LOL
I'd tweet this, but people would accuse me of being obsessed with Solo's tweets or something like that.
