Yeah I thought he would. He isnt playing so no point to ride the bench. Eddie is a great player and had a great career. I hope he continues his career in soccer, maybe as a coach somewhere.

Agree with the "great player/great career", but really hasn't meant too much to the Gs. Decent season last year, I suppose.

Next season we would have cleared more than enough cap space with:
    1) Eddie Lewis
    2) Alan Gordon
    Gone

    Who else am I missing??

Bruce better have some good players coming in next season. I know Dino will most likely be here next year but I wonder who esle.

    Clint Mathis.

We might be making additional room to retain Juninho.

With Lewis being gone from the left wing, maybe this is where John Arne Riise comes into the picture...

In all seriousness, Eddie was a great player in his time. He has lost a few steps and it shows now. But that should not take away from what he accomplished as a player.

Clarence Seedorf has said that he plans on coming to MLS once done with AC Milan. I'd love to see him in a Galaxy jersey.

That is good news. Chris Klein doesn't have to retire, but he has no place with this team anymore. There are 2 new teams coming to MLS next year and he can do more good there.

What this Eddie Lewis retiring shows me is that BA is a terrible GM. He is way to nostalgic and sympathetic to his "own" by bringing in two guys who took up value cap space and one who ended up retiring half way through the season and the other at the end of the season.

It makes me think whoever established our relationship w/ Sao Paolo Brazil was a genius. who knew that the 3 players they sent us would end up being so valuable to this team. Especially after BA was putting together a lewis, klein, birchall, becks midfield in his mind in the preseason.

Four players you won't see next year:

    1. Lewis (appreciate him stabilizing a rebuilding lineup, but the time has come)
    2. Mathis
    3. Gordon
    4. Klein

That's quite a big bite of cap space, BTW. I really like Chris Klein, but as I've said before---his legs gave up on him. I'd love to see him in a coaching role. He's great with other players, a smart player who always did more than his physical gifts.

But with that all said, that's some decent cap space. I hope we don't JUST re-sign Juninho. That would be a little anti-climactic.

TJ, sorry to state the obvious, but how can you blame Bruce for the oldsters on the team, but not give him credit for the Brazilians? Isn't he the one who signed them? He's definitely the one giving them game time over Mathis, Klein and Lewis.

Back on topic - Eddie had a great career, and based on how little we've seen him this year, it seems like the time had come. Thanks for your service, Eddie, especially to the national team.

Eddie had a stellar, admirable career. He was a quiet leader who was always dependable. I will never forget the goal he calmly scored against Mexico in Mexico in a WC Qualification game.

I went to the pre-season game Galaxy played against that team from Costa Rica at Cal State Fullerton. I was impressed by Eddie. He would always get open on the left flank, making himself available on that side of the field to stretch the other team. His pace and movements were still good.

    I will miss him.

While this may be correct (not sure) I think he'll play 1 more year. He's not ready to retire, and Bruce won't force him out.
