I couldn't tell if the whistle took forever or just couldn't be heard, Sabo looked like he pointed to his ear looking at the ref
I think he has only taken them when Findley hasn't been on the field? I bet he takes the next one this year!
that is what I want to know! robbie who is having a horrible year with making goals should just of let saborio make it. That would of been the team thing to do.
Given that Sabo has taken several earlier PKs, that was a surprise. But, I think the coaches want to find something to break Findley's funk. That didn't do it, of course. Probably makes it worse. AFter the initial frenetic pace that Seattle started with, the game has settled some and RSL is able to play at least a little bit of their game. Still, when it gets into RSL's end defense seems like it is hanging on by its nails.
I played GK in college (USAFA '89). As a rule of thumb I always guessed the kicker would go opposite of his foot if he was not very confident and go same side as foot if confident. Findley went opposite of his foot.
Findley told Keller what he was doing about 10 minutes before he took it. Very bizarre RSL game - why is Gonzalez taking free kicks? Why did Findley take that? It feels like a game of what would we do if we REALLY didn't give a shit about winning the shield
Reynish has been awful. Findley has been dismal. Possession has left a lot to be desired. Schuler has been a pleasant surprise so far.
Great half of soccer. Really liked Gonzales, Shuler and Beckerman in that half. Findley looked tired as he steped up to take the penalty, wish it would have been Javi or Sabo taking it, but I will give him credit for working hard to get the call.
WOW. That was a very exciting half of soccer. The ball was up and down the field and both teams were attacking. It's shoking that there were no goals. Thumbs up to Shuler. He did well under pressure. I think it was a good idea to let Robbie take the pk. He earned it. If he had scored it sould have been a confidence lifter for him.
Well, we've learned that we can put this sort of lineup on the field against a hot MLS team and still play fairly well. We've learned that Schuler can play defense (our subs into central defense the last few years? Horst and McKenzie, ladies and gentlemen!), not just for what he has done, but what Borchers has been able to do as he roams all over the field on defense. And we've learned that in all likelihiood, this is the Findley we're going to get this season. Hope I'm wrong, but those average fifteen minutes from early in the game is perhaps as good as it gets.
Didn't we try this a few weeks ago with the last penalty called in our favor in a league match? He scored it IIRC, but the confidence thing? Not so much. What do folks think - will we see Paulo Jr.?
A few thoughts before bed...4:00 am comes early. Shuler has played very well, thank God Mackenzie isn't in there. Watching Findley is like watching a car crash unfortunately..I get why he took it (to hopefully spur him out of his slump) but man we had a shot at putting Seattle in a really bad spot and it backfired...Findley is probably a basket case and we have nothing to show for it..
The exit game needs to come back to Real Salt Lake. I think Reynish needs to stop the long balls and start giving them to the defense and let the posession game ensue. Good luck RSL, we'll need it.
I for one would really like to see our new striker later in the match. RSL are really playing well and I hope we can get a result in the 2nd half. Missing that penalty was findley's season in a nutshell. Good news or bad news we will probably have him again next season.
