Palombo for Monto, Antonelli for Cassano... seems to me like we're closing up shop.

Was that Pepe running on the field this time?

Cassano attracts the crazies, obviously. Kindred spirits.

Not at all. I found it funny. We need a sense of humor around here.

Other results in our group so far ....

Serbia defeated Faroe Islands 3-0. Their second defeat as they lost to Estonia last month.

Northern Ireland leading Slovenia 1-0 (match in progress).

We're horrible on set pieces. The ball should never hit the ground on a corner, wtf!

SIrigu is shaky and our lack of awareness on set plays is also disconcerting.

Not impressive but I'll take the result.

Bravi Cassano, Bonucci & Pirlo. Pepe sucks. Montolivo is only good enough to be a sub for the NT. And Sirigu is a serious drop off from Buffon.

Now we beat Faroe and get 6.

So basically our 442 at the end had Antonelli as a left wing (not too weird) and Palombo as a right wing (very weird, and definitely a factor in Estonia getting plenty of the ball in the midfield... I love Palombo but he cannot possibly play in that position). So De Rossi was really the only holding mid in the center of the pitch at the end and that is not a good way to lock things down.

Maggio would have been a nice player to have on the bench for that formation.

Not great but 3 points. We have to get all 6 in this first qualifying week. Our midfield is still our weak link. We also need something more from our outside backs.

Haven't seen enough of him, but I was impressed with Cassani. Nothing flashy, but knew when to make runs and actually cut back and crossed with his left a few times. Would like to see him on the left and De Silvestri on the right next game.

    We actually won! \o/

Never knew we'd be celebrating a victory against Estonia this much but a win is a win, and after so long a drought a win is a great thing.

Here's hoping this marks the dawn of a new, victorious era.

We come away with a 2-1 victory. The problem is still the same for gli Azzurri. Our midfield is weak. Pirlo made a difference and I am sure Lippi was watching this game saying only if. Not that it would have won the WC for Italy but he makes a difference on this team. Montolivo is useless and can't say that De Rossi is much better at this point. What happened to him? We also need something more from the outside backs. Molinaro is not NT quality.

A goal and a lovely assist by Cassano - a big slap in the face for Lippi and all the Cassano haters on here.

Agree on Pepe, hopefully Marchionni takes that RW place soon.

Montolivo's passing looks a bit timid for the NT, but i don't think he's been necessarily bad, but not particularly brilliant either. If Aquilani gets fit, then he could be an alternative.
