In case anyone isn't aware of this item, from the New York Times, Tuesday, Feb. 17: Real Madrid, the top Spanish club, will be paid about $4 million to play two games in the United States this summer, a trip that will be promoted by Soccer United Marketing, an arm of MLS, said someone involved in promoting international team tours in the United States. Real is in first place in the Spanish league. The club will probably play the Mexican national team, which is also promoted by Soccer United Marketing, in Los Angeles, and the MLS All-Star team on July 24, probably on the East Coast. Although he did not address the details in an e-mail message, MLS Commissioner Don Garber wrote that "it's way too early to say with Real."
I wonder where they are going to play this if it goes through. The colisuem wasn't close to being filled last year with Man U and America, and afterward Man U said they should have played at The Cathedral. Mexico has also played their last couple of games at The Cathedral and they haven't been quick sellouts by any means, so they may be thinking that the HDC will be the perfect venue. The only thing is that this is Mexico (not just the isolated fans of America) and Real Madrid (essentially a world all-star team) and they could probaby do a good job of selling many seats in the Rose Bowl.
I've been wondering about the venue in LA as well. It's a real dilemma. God forbid they put it at the "Cathedral" and there's more ticket demand than the shoebox can handle. I'd opt for the Rose Bowl. I think the East Coast match will be at RFK. "Freddy's Home." But I'd kill to have it at Giants. I hope Real would be looking to toast MLS.

Mex should/could play RM at Reliant here in Houston. Mex-USA friendly sold out quickly. LA already gets so many Mexican games that they may be saturating the market there. Mex-Chile did not sell out. Mex NT has only twice played in Houston. Also weather would not be a problem. Of course only if the "permanent" grass field has already been installed and settled.
They're more interested in paying for the HDC than giving the rest of us the chance to see these matches. That's why the Shoebox is hogging so much stuff. ChampionsWorld doesn't play that game. They spread their events around. That's why I prefer them.
you answered your beef in the first sentence of your post. AEG paid for the toolbox, AEG paid for the marketing rights to the seleccion, you can't hardly blame them for looking out for their intere$t$. but then i live in the LA area. ricv56
Don't forget AEG/SUM are also going to pay Real Madrid $4 million, they can put the game were ever they want.
