Yea I know but those feeds usually suck and it's kinda gay that 1) I already pay for espn3 via my cable internet, 2) I'm willing to pay for MLS MatchDay and I can't access either.

I'll be searching atdhe.net for a good stream sunday :)

    wiser than I then...

I paid for MDL and found out that Comcast Sportsnet is accessible in my area (indianapolis) but only available with one of the satellites, rather then cable.

so I am not capable of watching any live Chicago Fire games unless they are out of Comcast Sportsnet Chicago territory (which is quite large)

I was just standing by the ticket window today around noon and Nails came out that brown door near bye ...if that helps any. I got nervous so I just asked my 2 year old grandson to say "Hi Nails" and he did.

Are you confusing MLS MatchDay with Direct kick? Match Day is streaming online.

Thorrington is a lazy waste of space.. Someone from the office one said to me "Thorrington only plays when his contract is up!" SO you can be sure he will play all next year since he has a garunteed year left on his current contract.

I think he has crappy mentaility and doesnt care anymore, I used to think Mapp was the worst waste of money and ribbed us blind with his laziness,

We all know dollar for dollar we have never gotten less out of a player than Johyn Thorrington, and possibly Jorge Campos.

Thanks for confirming there is at least one idiot in the Fire FO.

Never got less out of a player than Thor? Dollar for dollar worse than Mapp?

Put the pipe down for a minute and try to remember who was it that scored a stoppage time goal against the Galaxy to secure a playoff spot in 2007.

Try to remember who put 5 goals in the back of the net in 2008. BTW, three of those five were game winners. Yes, he's prone to injury, but if Mapp showed half the hustle Thor displays when he steps onto the field, he might still be with the Fire and have a few more caps for country.

How many goals has Mapp scored in the last five years? How did Mapp's salary compare to Thor's salary?

Besides, if you want to talk about a complete waste of space there are a host of others I'd like to purge from my memory. First and foremost:

    Wan-cho-pe.

It seems the collective memory of Fire fans always romanticizes this particular moment. That goal had no bearing on our playoff qualification.

A morale boost and a momentum-building victory heading into the post-season? Absolutely, but we would have qualified for the playoffs with only a draw, which would have come only seconds later. One could even speculate that drawing, taking the eighth seed, and playing in the Western bracket might have even been an easier route to the final.

Nothing at all against Thorrington, who can be a critical piece of the lineup defensively. When healthy, admittedly a rare event.

Thanks, I just spit coffee all over my monitor.

"Defensively"?? Are you kidding?? When healthy, Thor was a great asset to our attack at CAM but he was a complete and utter failure when Denis tried to make a d-mid out of him. He was clumsy, didn't read the game well defensively and was a red card looking for a place to happen, which occurred regularly.

This is important to note along with how brutal Conde was at DM. Everyone seems to assume we can plug just about anyone in that spot but in reality, it is critically important and not that easy. While Pause is not Chris Armas, he is a very steady player in midfield.

Now with Sega on board, you hear all kinds of opinions on who should be where with many of the options having someone else in Pause's spot. There is a reason de los Cobos has stuck with Pause when he certainly opened up positions to competition. He is the best we have there.

this is complete side note but I thought this was interesting. Seems like this game has caught some media buzz. You know those newscasts that, right before cutting to commercial they highlight the important interesting things coming up on the news that you should keep watching for? CLTV just highlighted the Fire for sports saying "and today the Fire have the battle of the designated players at Toyota Park, but which team has the edge?"

Thought that was pretty cool. :)

A draw would have done it, but his goal secured it, just like the OP said.

I suppose you can interpret "secures" as you will, but that goal is often cited as putting us into the playoffs, which isn't true. We were about 30 seconds from being in the playoffs anyway.

As for JT's defensive merits, you are free to disagree. He's certainly not a defensive midfielder, but he provided defensive tenacity in the middle along with Logan while also playing forward, something we haven't really had since perhaps Kovalenko.

Especially when CDLC makes it shoulder an immense amount of responsibility in his 4-1-4-1. Logan Pause would need to be Michael Essien to look good in that system. Especially now if Freddy is taking Baggio's spot, whoever is playing DM for us is going to be in a world of hurt.

It's also important to note that there are different kinds of D-mids. Not all d-mids play the same. Some are "holding midfielders" who are vitally involved in directing play. Some are destroyers whose job is simply to disrupt plays and shovel the ball to the nearest attacking middie, usually the #10 if you have a real #10 which are almost extinct these days.

Armas was a great d-mid of the "destroyer" variety. He broke up plays, won the ball and immediately looked for Nowak. That's pretty much it. Logan at his best is a poor man's Armas which is serviceable in MLS. Neither of them were "holding midfielders". After Nowak left, Armas proved that he could not run the midfield because he was not that type of player.

He played d-mid only in 2009 and picked up six yellows and two red cards (leading the team in both categories!) in only 1574 minutes. Only Soumare rivalled him with 5 yellows and a red.

    Nice try, though.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've seen on here in a while. Thorrington is not the worlds greatest player, and his decisions in the tackle are often questionable, but the one thing I know about John Thorrington is he goes end to end with a sack of piss and vinegar for 90 minutes whenever he is healthy (which, admittedly, is not nearly often enough). Is he worth having on the roster given how often he is hurt? I'm not sure. Is he lazy? Hell no.
