Lets change this topic to the title of the thread... http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/stand...cesc-fabregas-vows-hes-staying-at-arsenal.do? However, he said today: “I am a professional and I fully understand that it is Arsenal's prerogative not to sell me. I owe a lot to the club, manager and the fans and I will respect their decision and will now concentrate on the new season ahead with Arsenal. I can assure all the fans that now the negotiations have ended I will be 100 per cent focused on playing for Arsenal.” Fabregas admitted a move to Barcelona had been an appealing prospect, but that he respected the club's decision to hold on to a player who is under contract until 2014. He added: “Firstly I would like to apologise to all the Arsenal fans for not speaking sooner about my future but I have not known what I was going to do until this moment. “I cannot deny that joining a club like Barcelona was not an attractive move for me. This was the club where I learned my football, it is my home town where my friends and family are and a club where I have always dreamed of playing. “There are not many players in the world who would not want to play for Barcelona. I have had many conversations with Arsene Wenger both in person and over the phone over the last few months and although the content of those conversations will remain private, the conclusion is that Barcelona have had two formal offers rejected by Arsenal. “I am an Arsenal player and as soon as I step out on to the pitch, that is the only club I will be thinking about. “I am looking forward to the start of the season and putting this speculation behind me.”

It's more forthright, but the statement recalls much of the language drafted for Henry in early summer '06, shortly after the CL final. Cesc Fabregas, August 2010: Thierry Henry, May 2006:
3rd time *waits for someone to post it again* same, at least he is being honest and I have no issues with his statement... now we can move on
In hindsight, it should have said: "At many times it crossed my mind to leave, but I think my accountant and Wenger told me to stay...I've never played in Spain and i won't til next year, then i'll go to MLS. This is my 3rd to last contract." My only issue with Cesc's statement is that i'd like to know what Barca's second offer was.
Daily Mail said Barca made a £42 million bid yesterday (well the Barcelona papers said it and the Daily Mail ran with it)
"I cannot deny that joining a club like Barcelona was not an attractive move for me." So then he can deny that joining a club like Barcelona was an attractive move? Press office needs to hire a proofreader.
Now the thing is can we get another £43 million bid next summer when Barca knows he is done with Arsenal?
He'll still be under contract, correct? Hes Arsenal's until the club says so, Barca will have to pay up.
Makes you wonder, had they lodged a 42 million pound bid on June 1, would this have turned out differently. I think any bid over 40 might have turned Arsene's head had it been very early in the window. Unlike Henry and Vieira, Cesc won't lose value if we keep him for one more season. If anything, a continuation of his progression could mean that 42 ends up being seen as low as 27 was when it was offered this time. If he stays and helps us win something and then can head back to Barca, that would have to be a dream finish for all involved. I'd love to keep Cesc but it seems to be down to "when" and not "if" so I'd love for him to leave on a high.
LOL. I'd actually like to have heard Henry speak that, in his French-inflected brand of English, with lots of "Uhh" peppered in.
The topic is chips and bitter...and Cesc. Anyone know what kind of beer Cesc drinks? Can't really make it out from the video. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmvZPDA8TMI&feature=player_embedded"]YouTube- Puyol And Cesc Drinking Beer (Spain V. Netherlands) World Cup Final.‎[/ame]
Whether the side will have a replacement come next August is FAR more critical. If Cesc shines this season they'll pay his worth. If he doesn't then Arsenal has bigger issues. But if he goes and Arsenal treats this like the Flamini affair and fails to adequately compensate for the turnover, then I'll be really buggered. Methinks this next couple seasons will be the proving grounds for Wenger's harvest of Young Guns.
Agree. While he's clearly focused on Arsenal, he does concede that he would have gone if a deal could have been made. So...let's win something this year while we still have him!
“In the light of the statement released today regarding the contractual future of Cesc Fàbregas, FC Barcelona regrets the decision of Arsenal FC to declare the player not for sale and their decision not to take into consideration the offers proposed. None of those offers, in any way, exceeded 40 million Euros.” Hubris.
Cesc is okay in my book. It's clear he wants to go, and to some extent, that's his prerogative. But he respects us enough to honor his contract and not to screw us over by forcing a move. I have no doubt he'll give us his all this season.
He could have pitched a fit and forced the move. Sure he wants to go, but he pretty much kept his mouth shut, didn't he?
stunned we didnt sell him. pretty cool to have one of the best midfielders in the world on our side. dude is going to be under a microscope all year long unfortunately.
