The winner of 5 Copa Libertadores, including the first 2, will be back for Copa Libertadores 2011. They have already clinched at least the "Repechaje" stage. With 3 more points, they will clinch a group stage berth. There are still 15 more points in play.

The last time Peñarol played in the group stage was 2004 and the last time they played at all was in 2009 in the Repechaje.

Nice to have one of the historic clubs back in the tournament. Hopefully they'll do well.

Uruguay: Penarol edge Defensor for ninth in a row

Penarol claimed a last-gasp 3-2 victory over Defensor Sporting to extend their lead atop the Uruguayan Clausura championship to seven points after nine rounds on Sunday. Penarol, Uruguay´s most popular club, turned the result in their favour with two goals in the final ten minutes of the encounter. Diego Aguirre´s side are clear favourites to win the championship after their ninth successive victory of the competition.

Pablo Gaglianone sent Defensor into the break with a narrow advantage, but Antonio Pacheco leveled the score for Penarol thirteen minutes into the second half when he fired home a penalty kick. Ignacio Risso put Defensor ahead for the second time in the 75th minute, however, goals from Gaston Ramirez and an own goal from Gaglianone in second half injury time gave Penarol a dramatic victory.

The 40,000 fans who flocked to the Centenario stadium witnessed perhaps the most entertaining match of the entire season.

Former Inter Milan attacker Alvaro Recoba starred as Danubio beat Wanderers 3-1 at the Parque Viera. Recoba continued his impressive form of recent weeks and scored one of Danubio´s three goals. Diego Perrone had put Danubio ahead early in the first half.

On Saturday Cerro came from behind to defeat Nacional 3-1 at the Luis Troccoli stadium. Gustavo Varela gave Nacional the lead in the 5th minute, but two first half goals from Rodrigo Mora and another from Pablo Caballero turned the result in Cerro´s favour.

In other matches, River Plate thrashed Cerrito 3-1, Central Espanol beat Liverpool 2-0 and Tacuarembo drew 1-1 with Fenix.

That article is way wrong, starting from the title.

Our win over Defensor was our 10th straight win.

We have beaten Wanderers, Cerro, Racing, Tacuarembo, Liverpool, River Plate, Cerro Largo, Central Español, Rampla Juniors, and Defensor Sporting.

We have 5 games left (Cerrito, Fenix, nacional, Danubio and Atenas)

In the Tabla Anual, which qualifies for international cups, we are first with 56 points. The teams that win the Clausura and Apertura go to the group stage, and the next best team on the Tabla Anual, goes to the Repechaje.

In 3rd place, we have Liverpool, with 44 points, with 12 less than us, with 15 points still to play. So if they win all their games, and we lose all of ours, they get the Group Stage berth as long as we don't win the Clausura.

In 4th place, you have Danubio with 39 points, 17 behind us with 15 left to play, so they can't catch us.

To qualify to the Copa Sudamericana, you need to win the Uruguayan Championship, or be 4th or 5th in the Tabla Anual.

So today, the Libertadores spots would go to Peñarol and nacional(group stage) and Liverpool(Repechaje)

The Sudamericana would go to whoever wins the final between Peñarol and nacional(granted that Peñarol wins the Clausura), which is 99% for sure), Danubio, and Defensor Sporting.

Therefore, we are in the Libertadores!

And today, with the victory against Fenix, which clinched the Clausura 3 weeks early, with 12 wins in 12 games to start the year, the week before El Clasico, Peñarol clinches a spot in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores 2011!

For the next years. I think its better this way, the teams that have been consistently good all year get rewarded with the liguilla you could have a fantastic season have a bad liguilla and you dont make it.

Peñarol will be Uruguay 1 in the Copa Libertadores AND Copa Sudamericana.

Also, it is true about the stadium. Not finalized yet, they are waiting on the land. In about a month it should be official.

And about the set up for the next years, I have no idea
