Which is why a reporter doesn't rely on the officials sources for all the news. If the Rev front office isn't talking, there are other people who might have info. (Scouts, agents, other teams)
Unfortunately, Frank parrots the MLS party line that the SuperLiga is a competition involving the best teams from MLS and Mexico. In actual fact, the best teams in those leagues participate in the Champions League. SuperLiga involves second rate teams from those leagues.
Second rate teams from MLS, and then non-first rate teams from the Mexican league that actually accept the invite.
That's not the point. The point is honesty in advertising. The Europa League is honest enough not to bill itself as involving the best teams in Europe.
Perhaps, but the Revs broadcast team (half of which is part of the Revs' FO) is doing so as is the most high profile daily covering the team. I know that honesty, straight forwardness and treating the fans as not-complete idiots aren't exactly hallmarks of MLS behavior, but one can certainly push for those things.
See I disagree because I've watched the Revs' superliga matches and neither Brad nor Jay have once said "top teams in Mexico" that I remember. If they have, they're lying. It's the Europa league of North America, end of.

Looks about right. Didn't SJ have a decent attacking mid they got from a team in the Championship in 2009? He didn't work out apparently but that's higher quality than anyone the Revs have acquired recently.
I'm quite sure Brad said it before the last game. Also, it's not the Europa League of North America. If it were, it would involve teams from all the countries of CONCACAF and all teams would have home games.
If that's what goes for a shirt sponsor (or Herba-whatever), I'd rather have none. I know enough about Amway to know that I wouldn't want to be associated with them.
Yeah, it's easy to be all sanctimonious about how lame it is to be taking money from the Herbalists or Amway or some sugar-infested energy drink, but the thing is those companies are giving money to the clubs. A substantial amount. And the clubs are doing things with that money like advertising, marketing, hiring front-office staff, or even scouts who go out and evaluate potential players the club might consider signing. Something we never seem to have the budget for because, well, y'see, we run a tight ship around here with no waste and a lean operation. After all, Bobby-the-K is, in fact a savvy businessman, an ye kin nae dispuute thet, Jimmeh !
Some sponsor ideas: e-harmony - because we're always looking for the right one. BP - They embody our foresight in dealing with problems in a timely way. Building 19 - Good stuff...cheap! TarpsOnline.com - self-explanatory, or along the same lines... halfempty.com Anyone else want to take a crack at this?
Darren Huckerby? He was pretty talented and definitely made an impact when on the field, but he was constantly battling to stay healthy.
How recent a phenomenon is this, Monty? I didn't get any sense of it when I was covering the team in the early and middle parts of the last decade, and on at least a couple of occasions (when they tanked an Open Cup match in Ludlow, and when they gave up the CONCACAF home game vs Alajuelense) I wrote some scathing stuff about the front office. Maybe I wasn't with a big-enough paper to bother them, but I never felt like they were cutting me off from anything. But perhaps a lot has changed in 4-5 years.
I've heard these stories for a while now. It's not a new phenomenon. I can't get into more details than that, because I really don't want to reveal who made these comments.
Yeah - Huckerby, thanks. I remember the start of 2009 everyone was scared to death about going out to San Ho and people were predicting Huckerby would singlehandedly destroy the Revs. He didn't and SJ turned into this season's Revs as far as results but at least they made the effort of getting a guy (even if he's EJ healthwise, they didn't resign him THIS year) who had plied his trade in a halfway decent league. THAT is effort. More Perovic's please.
I have heard a few things about the FO as well. went as far as some agents will just not point their players to the Revs, they would rather just not deal with them
