I don't see the point having : Howard, Cherundolo, Bocanegra, Dempsey & Bradley for this game, these already proven their worth. This perfect game for some new faces, give experience to less experience. If Hoyos get a call, might help us keep Hoyos, this is a game for Adu & Mix to play.

Adu? Really? can we get off that until he gets a club please?
Also, I still don't get the draw for Hoyos to play with the US. He's playing well for the Argentina U20s already and clearly has interest there. I'd love it if he chose to play with us, I just don't see why he would.

Marketing. I'm not saying to bring all of them in (I've posted my preferred roster above), but it would put something of a wet blanket on the MNT's momo if we get spanked by Brazil. Coming after the WC, being Brazil, this is as high of a profile match as we're going to have until maybe the GC final (if we make that). Even that may not get as much attention. It's important that we perform well in this one.

Our player base going forward is going to have so many players with options as to which country to play for, that our MNT is basically always going to be "recruiting." Beat Brazil, and there are a lot of impressionable young players who may feel that we're reaching the big time. Get spanked, & we look a lot more like a back-up plan.

With all the managers angry about the friendlies in England, I imagine we will see

    [LINEUP-4-4-2]Buddle,Findley/Gomez,Feilhaber,Bradley,Edu,Donovan,Bornstein,Gonzalez,Bocanegra,Cherundolo,Guzan[/LINEUP-4-4-2]

I dont want to see Findley anymore. I wonder about our CB's. Will Boca leave a new club for a silly friendly? Will onyewu come when he is fighting for a spot? Goodson?

How they stack up against Brazil. You don't bleed most new players in high caliber international friendlies. I'd be surprised if more than two players w/o caps are brought in.

How about being competitive? While we can live without Dolo and Bocanegra (good players that they are) and maybe even Howard, Dempsey and Bradley are two of the very few players the US has that can even come close to the Brazilian level. Without them, not only do we risk a beating but you don't learn anything about the new players that you do bring in because you are just chasing Brazil around all day.

i'd use brasil to reward those 2010 guys who can make it...bring in a few new guys too..

poland is where i'd start looking to the future..

right now, it's copa oro that's important...there'll be 2-3 newer faces, but expecting serious changes for copa oro...won't happen...

I seriously disagree. I think there could be 8-10 new face on the Gold Cup roster that weren't on the 2010 SA roster. Just due to injuries next year that we don't know about yet / hopefully healthy guys (Davies and Jones), at least 2-3 spots would likely change. Hahneman won't be on the roster either. Some other guys might be in need of a break and other guys will have emerged by then.

I doubt USSF will want to drag the Europeans out for a mid-week friendly.

The Brazilians are bringing in their prospects too.

This IS a new cycle and it should be treated as such. No need to continue the madness. Bring in the young guns and change the coach ASAP.

    Like to see:
[LINEUP-4-4-2]Davies, Altidore, Donovan, Jones, Bradley, Holden,
Bocanegra, Gonzalez, Onyewu, Spector, Howard [/LINEUP-4-4-2]

Subs: Adu, Movsisyian, Diskerud, Torres, Edu, Bedoya, Opara, Danny Williams

    Who we will see:
[LINEUP-4-4-2]Ching, Buddle, Donovan, Bradley, Feilhaber, Rogers, Bornstein, Goodson, Marshall, Franklin, Howard[/LINEUP-4-4-2]

USA10Kit wrote a great artcile on why BB should call up and use this high profile FRIENDLY match to expose our top young talent, ie Hoyos (at least extend the branch, Diskerud, Lichaj, Okugo, Bedoya etc.

On a side note I would love to see Adu get another shot at the team.

    Yep.

We should even go so far as to think of this game as the last match of the 2010 cycle. I imagine Bob will get as close to the 2010WC roster as possible, witholding some of the Euros to prepare for their club season. Although the Euro-based players that are supposedly "in the shop window" like Onyewu, Altidore, etc. will probably be brought in.

Skevinrules projected starting XI looks pretty good. I don't think Gonzalez will start; start Gooch instead. He'll be there. Milan doesn't seem to want him, and he needs to showcase his abilities. [And please, none of this "well then he shouldn't play against Brazil. They might make him look bad." Athletes don't think this way.]

Adu did well with Aris, this not the first time we had a player without club getting a call to USNT.

Not the first time, but that doesn't mean it should happen now with Adu. My point was that in his situation right now he needs to concentrate on finding a club, not taking a spot from someone who currently deserves it.

Also, he only did well enough to get literally left off the plane and told by the coach he wasn't in the team's plans.

This game with worth taking some risk, we can't be "scared" towards Brazil, its good to test-out some new players. This isn't the strongest Brazil team.

Regardless of ability I think calling up ANY player without a club is a big step back to 1994...one we don't need and frankly shouldn't legitimately consider doing.

    here
That's kind of a B.S. response. "Playing Scared"? I don't think saying that throwing out a team of untested newbies against Brazil is a bad idea is "Playing Scared."

I'm saying, for this game, throw out the best team we reasonably can. (If you want my definition of "reasonable" find my earlier proposed line-up in this thread.) Why is it "worth taking some risk" in this match? We've got 2 years - plenty of matches - before things start to count. We have Poland shortly after this match. Use Poland to take some risks.

    Who are you talking about?

There is a big difference between between calling up somebody who is still deciding which offer to take in the transfer window and calling up somebody who can't find a club to play with. I don't think we have players who really fall into the latter.

Edit: I see this is about Adu mentioned above. Still its not that Adu couldn't find a club somewhere and had never played in a proper league like some of players from the early 90's.
