from http://www.ussocceruk.com/news/?CatTypeId=2&ContentId=1342 "....on July 11th at a to-be-named place. Early signs point to New Jersey and Giants Stadium playing host to the Poles, beating out Chicago's Soldier Field and its large Polish-American population" I welcome this game its about time to see the Nat team here, but why not make it a double header with the Metros. Poland game is scheduled for Sunday July 11 and Metrostars host San Jose a day earlier on Saturday July 10. Also interesting that somehow Giants Stadium seems to have "beat" out Soldier field for this one, i didn't know they were compeating with one another for games. What criteria is it used to determine location besides availability, ticket sales?
This would be a joke if this game is not is Chicago! Insert conspiracy theory about U.S. Soccer not having games in their own backyard.
We've been over this. Despite the conventional wisdom, there aren't more Polish people in Chicago than in the New York area.
Would they put in grass for the Nats or would they play on fieldturf? Could they keep the turf in for a couple of MetroStars matches after it's in if they did install grass?
Care to rehash? Because I've never seen anyone lay out the statistics, and I'd be surprised if New York City has more polish people than Chicago. Although I suppose the term "New York area" can be pretty encompassing.
they have been over it before statistically there are more poles in the New York area, someone already posted the stats before somewhere, but anyways if the game is at Giants Stadium they should definitely combine it with a Metrostars game especially that july 10th when we host the San Jose Earthquakes. that would be sweet, id definitely be there.
Althoug I was quite shocked at the 2000 census information, I think the combination of the Polish Team and the American Team (that many of the Poles here support as well) would be a natural for National Team starved Chicago. So therefore the joke is two-fold. Still no national team and ignorace of the large Polish population of Chicago.
Thanks...that's interesting data. In spite of the fact that NYC has a bit more Polish people, I'd still put the match in Chicago. But it'll be interesting to see what they do.
I can't argue with you that Chicago deserves a friendly even more than the neglected New York area, and that Poland would be just about ideal. What that data shows is that the numbers of Poles in both cities would justify a friendly.
The only thing I think of when I hear Chicago are those fat super fans from SNL. http://www1.chapman.edu/students/ralst100/snlbulls.jpg
This thread is a laugh riot. Why would anyone living here say the match is better suited to Chicago? Do you want to see the Nats or not? Everybody should want the match to be at Giants. I want it at Giants. I'll be first in line for tickets. And this business of where more Poles or Polish-Americans live is ludicrous. Does this talk mean that most of you fear not enough "Americans" will show up to support the USMNT? You need the crowd supplimented by people from Poland or of Polish extraction? Maybe the crappy attendance at U.S.-Denmark out in the Cathedral has everybody scared silly. Everyone is in such an uproar over the U.S.-Mexico baloney, you'd think the entire country would run out to buy tickets for ANY match featuring a U.S. National club to show them support. Hold the damn match here. It's about time they dropped in to say "Hi" to the fans in this area. The Mexicans seem to come every year for their fans. You'd think the USMNT would have the same decency and respect for this area.
I look at it this way, ten years ago hardly anyone outside of the Polish-American communities in this country would have taken notice of this match. People debating the location of a friendly is a sign to me that intrest in soccer continues to grow here. As far as attendance at HDC for USA-Denmark, it just proves what I have always said - people here will only attend "important" matches. Why that is so is beyond me.
Glad to see New York get a USNMT game. Too bad about Chicago, if this report is true. There are way more Poles in Chicago than than New York. Half the Polish team probably has relatives in Chicago. I think this is the reason for the delay, Poland asking for Chicago and the USSF saying: "I'm sorry there is nothing that we can do."
Re: Re: USA-Poland at Giants Stadium(maybe) Good point, but ELEVEN years ago at this time the USSF, then based in Colorado, announced a friendly with Germany in Chicago. There was a lot of interest and a crowd of 36,000 under threat of rain. So some areas of the country cared even then.
You're just blatantly ignoring the census data we threw out there for you in the last thread on this, aren't you?
I have already patiently explained why that data is wrong. For example, New York has about 2 million Jews but the data table has no entry for them, other than Israeli, which does not necessarily apply to European immigrants. I believe that table said there were 37,000 Israelis, but what about the 1.94 million who are not Israelis? There are other errors that have already been discussed. Try telling Poles that New York has more Poles than Chicago! New York has lots of Poles but Chicago has way more. That is why it would make sense to end the ban and put this game in Chicago. Still, I am glad New York is getting a game. It is a great city and deserves a game, don't you think?
Is the ban official or just presumed due to a lack of USMNT games in Chi town? I would think the holding of Open Cup finals (past year excepted) shows that the USSF is not boycotting Chicago entirely, though you are overdue for a Nats game. Any hint about the rumored Scotland game going to Chicago? I'd rather have USA- Scotland in NY and USA- Poland in Chicago, but I'm not Polish of course.
