Since we know we will play our away leg within driving distance, it's time to put together a road trip to support our lads in enemy territory.

Unfortunately the away leg will be played on a weekday night (probably Wed the 11th or Thurs the 12th) which will cut this out for a lot of people, but for the hardcore, either post here, PM me, or send an email to soundernation@yahoo.com indicating how many in your party, whether you can drive or need a ride, etc. If you need a ride, please let me know ASAP -- we got some last minute people the last time that we couldn't accommodate, when we could have rented a van if we'd known earlier.

Plan on leaving early afternoon, especially if it's Vancouver and we have to get through customs. For a Vancouver trip, make sure you have a current passport or birth certificate for the border crossing.

    Does Shittle have hardcore supporters?

    Come on down

All three hardcore Shittle fans are welcome to come to Portland. We had 15 supporters drive 400+ miles to Vancouver last night for an essentially meaningless game. After we beat the Craps you can count on a massive Timbers Army road trip to Shittle. Can't wait to see you and your worthless brother again Mr. Sawatzky.

You guys are forgetting a key point. Unsaid, but implied, is that Seattle will play the winner of that series. Alas, Sounders fans will be heading north to Vancouver. But you're welcome to come watch the Sea-Van series anyway. ;)

Just because the Sounders don't WANT to play the Timbers doesn't make that so. Unlike Monday, the Timbers will have Tennyson, Ochoa, Howes, Sagare, and possibly Roner and/or Bower on the field. The Timbers weren't about to show their hand on Monday, and Tennyson had to serve his bogus red card.

Sorry, the Timbers aren't just going to play dead. Nothing will give us more pleasure than knocking off Vancouver then Seattle in the playoffs. :-D

    Re: Come on down

Get your odometer fixed. It's not 400 miles from Portland to Vancouver BC. Well, maybe it is since you lot probably got confused and drove around Vancouver WASHINGTON for about 2 hours till someone at a gas station set you straight after you finally asked for directions :D

    You're right

The round trip was actually 740 miles. Many of which were spent sitting in Shittle traffic.

I'm surprised you didn't get out and urinate on I-5 while waiting. Or do you only do that in Kamloops.

Yeah it was then that they realized that you actually need a car to drive to Vancouver and that sitting in traffic was doing nothing but causing traffic jams for the motorists.

Haven't you ever heard of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" ;)

Hell, anyone that hates P*rtland clubs is OK in my book. Whether its footy, ice hockey, or anything else.

Does that mean I support Vancouver? Heck no. I'm sure Vancouver despise us just as much as ever. But when it comes to seeing a bunch of cocky SOBs that have ever won fook all "get theirs" then I think we're all in it in some way or other.

I just talked to a ticket rep. at the Sounders office. They're looking into running a coach to the away match. If it happens, it would be about $30 including the match ticket, departing from the Sounders office in Bellevue.

Yes, I talked with Adrian at the GameWorks get together on Wednesday about this. They are basically trying to get the vendor to agree to switch to a smaller bus on somewhat short notice in case we can't fill a standard size one. It should be sorted out shortly. The club site should have a posting when it is ready, and I'll also update SounderNation when I get the details. $30 isn't bad, I can deal with that for letting someone else drive for a change :)

We'd probably have a harder time getting people to go on a Wednesday or Thursday -- if Vancouver win the series, Adrian was telling me that the match up there would be on a Friday night most likely, and if so, I think our chances of filling the bus are pretty good. We'd definitely get more people going when you don't have to worry about work the next day

I'm still going to have the carpools as a backup in case the bus falls through. Got a couple of people on BigSoccer and via SounderNation who are interested and can drive if necessary as well.

At Swangard they sell beer in the main concourse behind the stands as well as in the southside beer garden. In the main concourse you can get Guinness -- poured from a can, but still good. In the southside they had on tap a Strongbow hard cider, which seemed to be most popular, and a Canterbury brew they billed as "dark/mild". I tried the latter, but didn't like it as well as the Guinness.

I learned that they have some rather silly rules about alcohol there. You can drink in the stands, in the concourse behind the stands, and in the beer garden behind the south goal, but the short walk between the beer garden and the main concourse is a place where you can't carry your beer, the man told me. And when I tried to get another beer 12 minutes into the second half, they informed me that beer sales have to be curtailed 10 minutes into the second half. That explains why I saw so many two-fisted drinkers at the start of the second half! The SouthSiders blamed the strange rules on the city of Burnaby. Still better than Seattle's Memorial Stadium, though, where the only beer allowed in the stadium is that which you bring in your belly.

Until you pointed it out to me last night, I never knew that you could get guinness at Swangard. I had seen you mention it before, but never seen it.

Thre really are some silly rules regarding the beer. It's silly that you can't walk the short distance from the southside to the concourse to carry your beer, and stopping the beer sales 10 minutes into the second half is really silly. Apprently this is done to give people time to sober up before they drive home. However is just encourages people to actually get more drunk as, just like you mentioned, people just two fist the beer near shutting down time. Instead of pacing themselves they just get stinking drunk by the 55th minute of the match and by the time the match is over, they're quite hammered.

As for Strongbow being the drink of choice, given the two choices you have in the beer garden, it's the better pick. Canterbury is the locally brewed cheap beer, the cheapest you can buy in our liquor stores. That brings up another stupid city of Burnaby rule. Canterbury wanted to slash the cost for the beer at the stadium to better reflect it's price in the marketplace. City of Burnaby would not allow this which is why you have to pay $5 for a beer that would probably cost half of that if Canterbury had their way.

    Beer Belly

The Beer is crap and the price for it stinks I would rather pony up an extra 50 cents for the cider any day given the choices. The best bet is head to Earl's on Kingsway for a couple of starters ...

    Cheers

Hopefully we don't get held up for hours on end at the border, so we have time to hit Earl's or some other place nearby to get a head start :)

As for Memorial, I've found you can smuggle stuff in pretty easily. We have a young lass that brings mixed lemonade/vodka or some such thing into the matches, generally about 4 or 5 pints worth. I think I'll be doing the same on Sunday...

The security's never checked my backpack/bag o' goodies so I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to get at least a beer or two in. Just be discreet when consuming though :D

FYI Eric ... If you are going to Earl's there is a shopping plaza next to it with a Grocerey Store and other shops etc. In the Plaza they have a Liqour Store in the corner ... so you can have a few ready for the game..... closes at 6pm

Thanks footy. Will make a mad dash there if we get up there in time. I think I know where you're talking about, I drove down that way when I was up there for the 2nd Sea/Van match in May, as I had a ton of time to kill...

How many of you lot are coming on Sunday?

Theres going to probably be around 30 Whitecaps supporters on Sunday-minus me.

The organizer of the bus trip has suggested that anyone without a valid passport should probably not come on the bus. Mine expired last December, and has not been renewed because I don't have any money to go anywhere anyway.

Oh well, I guess I'll save some money.
