    :D

And you don't live in the bible belt. :p I get all sorts of shitty looks from people when I tell them I don't want kids, can't stand them, or when I wave off the obligatory 'holding of the new office baby' ritual.

I like children that other people have/own. That way I can borrow the child and the aching in my ovaries goes down the second something messy happens. I then hand them back to their rightful adult and walk away.

Kids are like pools and boats... they're great when other people are responsible for cleaning all the shit off 'em.

even that is too much. I just don't like being around kids. with their constant questions, needs, smells, and grime.

I hate little kids. When they are older it is much better. I enjoy working teenagers, even though my specialty is working with young people who have severe behavior issues. I can see past the damage and appreciate all the ways in which they are actually cool. I generally like the company of my friends teenage kids. I have never LIVED WITH A TEENAGER though. I'm not sure that would be a barrel of laughs.

Kids maybe in the future. Right now, pass(the kids back to the parents)-n-go(the other way).

I saw the piece about it on The Today Show and MSNBC. That would totally sucked if you thought the person you knew lived but they really didn't. The girl who did survive, could secretly call herself "The Girl Who Lived" <--(Shameful HP reference). Withdrawl.

How about Triops. Just add water - instant, low-maintenance pet. Or you could just go with the classic pet rock.

ok, maybe not so low-maintenance. But instant! and featured on MTV!

My favorite questions in the FAQ section:
My cat ate my hatching nutrient. What should I do?

I have a creature other than my Triops that hatched in my tank! It is long and skinny and has two eyes on the side of its head. What is this?

And under "what else can I feed them," it says "Hot dogs kill them so don't even think about it." They do, however, eat each other. :p

I have a lab, Rocky, who is old but still rules. And I have a cat, Partytime, who's pretty much a prissy bitch, but still rules. She's a Heather.

But Mookie I wouldn't recommend a lab to you because they are asses for the first 4 years, then they calm down and rule most of the time.

My grandma has a lab now. After 12 years of rottweilers and a rottweiler/chow cross.

She's the sweetest dog we've ever had. She's also, by far, the stupidest.

I like rotties and I also like American boxers. If it's going to be a bird dog, I'd rather have a spaniel of some sort than a lab. I don't care for pit bulls or even American bulldogs. Even if they're the sweetest dogs in the world, they do snap sometimes -- be it on another animal or person.

For medium/smaller dogs, Schnauzers are cool and Jack Russel terriers are pretty awesome little dogs. Oh, and Australian shepherds are great to have around. They're well tempered and have a cool look to them.

One dog I haven't owned yet, due to my living in such hot climates, is an Alaskan Malamute. The same for Japanese Akitas. I want to eventually own them both, but only if I can live someplace up north that doesn't have these severe summers.

I'm partial to basset hounds. :) They're smart, loveable, clowns by nature but also stubborn as all get up.

We had a Golden Retriever growing up. He was a huge part of my childhood.
Great dog for kids. My dad had an Akita for a while. He did have to keep him indoors as much as possible during summers.

If I did get another dog it would probably be another Shih Tzu. That won't be for a while. In a perfect world I'd have a Shih Tzu, Huskie, and Komondor; and we would be one big happy family. Might have to settle for the sea monkies......um I mean "Triops."

I love Bassets! The farrier up the road has a Basset x Lab and it's the daftest dog.

There was a strange knocking outside my bedroom one winter evening. Eventually I mustered up the courage to look outside but there was nothing I could see. Dad was working nightshifts, so Mum was roped in for safety. We gingerly crept to the front door to see a Rottweiler looking in the window at us and a rather pleased black labrador wagging his tail against the wall... or so we thought. Then he stood up and his full lab body was only a couple of inches off the ground:D Bertie!

Had a springer spaniel.... they are incredibly clever! There's one down the road that killed someone's peacock though:(

Second/third the votes for any kind of hound. I always thought I was a cat person - even though until recently I had never lived with one - but then a Beagle came into my life. Yes, they are expert beggars and many consider themselves "above" being trainable. But they are incredibly intelligent, loving and interesting (and not very smelly, imo, compared to other breeds).

I do have a soft spot for Schnauzers and Labs, but Mook, please DO NOT get a Shih Tzu! If you've had a good one before, I won't begrude you. But - and I think I've mentioned this on BS before - I have met quite a few and they were all psychotic and on people meds.

Has anyone had or known anyone with a house rabbit? I hear they can be good pets - and can be litter trained like cats - especially if you live in a city and aren't home enough to have a dog.

rabbits are cool but their urine is godawful smelly. They can be litter trained fairly easy but you have to constantly change out the litter because of the aforementioned smell. um you need to sort of babyproof your house because they will chew on all the cords, if they perceive them to be in their way (like roots). dont actually give your rabbit lettuce or carrots. get your rabbit spayed.
oh and you have to give them things they can chew on, as their teeth never stop growing, thus will cuase them problems if not naturally filed down.
