Hi again everybody! Well Titi certainly showed he still has the stuff last night as he thoroughly entertained the 20K+ crowd (told you so zensum!) at Red Bull Arena... I would have like to see the place filled but I guess this will take time...still a good turnout for a work week evening game. Next test comes on Sunday vs Man. City. That game should be a sell out and I hope we get to see Angel playing for this one too. After watching Henry last night it dawned on me that he could very easily slide into the CAM position interchanging with Macoumba and Angel up top. He does an excellent job distributing the ball. The Bulls really should have won the game last night as they blew at least 3 clear chances... but que sera, sera... This game is pretty meaningless in any case. I am sure once Rafa is on board this team will be tough to beat... as I am sure the other players will rise to the challenge...
Hopefully we'll see Garcia instead of the Great Dane. I'm sure Ream is attracting a lot of interest from teams abroad. Strong play the whole season, playing well in all of our international games another good game and interest will spark.
I don't want to say that Man City is not taking this seriously, but they had two guys playing Sporting last night with jersey #52 and #60. PS- Didn't seem like it rained a drop on Red Bull Arena while the rest of the surrounding area was soaked.
Really curious to see what we come out with in the first half. Angel and Henry up top definitely. Then the question marks start with where Kandji is, because it seems like Backe just wants him out there. He's mentioned attacking mid, and he's also mentioned him playing outside mid. I think we very well may see something like: Henry Angel Lindpere Kandji Robinson Richards Miller Ream Mendes Albright Backe loves Kandji and I think he really liked what Lindpere was able to do on the outside there with the Henry goal. I hate to play a player at an unnatural position like Lindpere on the outside though...
This story gives more insight on what Backe might do tomorrow: http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/soccerblog/rbny_search_impress_back_marcos_V94AEvhPK12DRKa4doeWgN
Yep, it definitely gives insight, but a lot of that I think is under the assumption of having Marquez. I think the biggest thing is finding a spot for Kandji. Backe wants him out there, but he's not sure where. Either Outside mid or as attacking mid. Not sure I know either. I'd be interested in attacking mid, but I'm not completely positive that he has the vision for it. He does seem pretty comfortable in tight areas though.
I will prefer Borman instead of Miller...He lately become a liability and if Angel isn't 100% OK they better live him home and be sure to be 100% for the next league game....
Gee, this has me wondering about Lindpere's role on the team. If they move him to the left, will he be happy with that? Can he play there? Is he fast enough?
And they also played Craig Bellamy, Stephen Ireland, Vincent Kompany, Micah Richards, Patrick Viera, Jolean Lescott, and Zabaleta. I was impressed with their lineup....just not the way the lineup performed.
He's played on the left for most of his career, including on the Estonian national team. He says he likes playing centrally better, though. Whether he's at his happiest or not, he strikes me as the type of guy who will do what is asked of him with all the determination he can muster. Also, whether he likes it better or not, he seems more comfortable when he's attacking from the left. Take, for one example, his set-up and assist on Henry's goal.
agreed. and in the diamond Backe's been taking about, the wide players aren't as wide as in a flat 4, so he won't really be playing too far from where he plays as left CM in a 4-4-2. Given Lindperes' better defensive skills, i'd rather he be the left mid and have Kandji free to attack from the top of the diamond. and they could switch positions occasionally to keep the D off balance (like they did on Thursday against Spurs).

Wow, the field currently looks like crap. Potholes covered with sand ALL OVER the field. They've always tried to cover the minor divots during halftime when they only play one game during the week, but the field is entirely covered by them now. Other pro grass fields can handle the pounding of extra games, but for whatever reason, the field at Red Bull Arena can't handle the extra games during the week.
I have to say that the way that Sporting and Spurs are playing right now, you would think that this was a Europa League or Champions League match. Players are going full speed, hard tackles, players getting emotional. Props to these teams for coming to NY and putting on such a performance. Few clubs show this much effort for thier summer friendlies.

Well the stadium is new. I also kinda thought that the pitch was kinda bad. I always see dirt flying when the ball is kicked.
