I know the Banshee in Dorchester is having alot of Celtic supporters groups there before the match...
Sam Kennedy, Red Sox COO, spoke on FOX 25 tonight at stated that 31,000 tickets have been sold up to date.
no mls team= no interest for me. I have gone to these european friendlies before and I will never go again. I learned my lesson with AC Milan and Manchester united, a horrid display of two teams on holiday. It is a friendly for both of them and neither has any idea how much it might mean to some of the local fans. Revs vs. Celtic, I would pay and cheer the Revs loudly.. I learned my lesson, they don't care!
They only had 30,000 out of 37,000 sold yesterday afternoon apparently, plus I bet there will be a lot of extra tickets floating around from people who thought it would sell out... I got a set 8 rows from the field in the Celtic supporters section last night around midnight... I think your chances are good
Uhh..it's in Fenway. I don't go to Sox games or any other sports, so as long as it is quality, I will go. I am sure players want to impress. AC Milan and United probably have more prima donnas that would not try..
Out of curiosity how has the local marketing been for this one? Do you see ads on NESN or any sox-related websites? How about billboards in the area and whatnot? The Globe? Although needless to say, 30k is A LOT more significant crowd than if they held it at Gillette (it may be double in Boston on a Wednesday). If the marketing gurus at Fenway can't sell tickets (they have), no one can.
You don't go to Red Sox games? They are one of the top 4 teams in baseball and you don't watch them play? When do you go? Do you honestly think that Sporting will try to impress with a tournament in the next 2 days? Be real, I don't think so. Their goal is to not get hurt, not play good soccer and entertain. The red Bulls almost threw them out of the tourney because of this game. You have your opinion, I have been to these games and I have mine. Do you think either team has any idea where they are playing and the significance to we the Bostonians that live here? No. They should because there is historical significance with both teams at Fenway, but they won't because they don't care. Here is the schedule for the tourney. July 22: New York vs. Tottenham, 8 p.m. ET July 23: Manchester City vs. Sporting, 8 p.m. ET July 25: Tottenham vs. Sporting, 1 p.m. ET July 25: New York vs. Manchester City, 3:30 p.m. ET
I've heard a lot of ads, I've also heard it mentioned on the radio and TV during Sox games. Nope. I catch maybe an inning or two if I'm at a place that has the game on, but other than that...
Monty, His point was he doesn't go to anything but QUALITY games. The red sox are quality for MLB. I don't go either, but it is because of the price. I barely watch the red sox. The sox are like backgrouond noise for me.
Man, I hope Tom Werner and John Henry are watching this game. The Revs might've found some prospective owners with some actual interest in the team after this.
The only way that Bob Kraft would be interested in something like this would be if he had an imagination transplant.
Every time there is an event like this in the area, the people in charge of the Revs have to ask themselves..."OK, how can we turn the many rabid soccer fans in the area into Revs fans?" There isn't an easy answer, but they have never really tried to employ a comprehensive strategy to do so. Sure, many won't get into MLS, but bringing in a Perovic or two plus making an Henry-esque splash, really moving forward on SSS plans, and better targeted marketing at adult soccer fans coupled with their group sales efforts just might make an impact.
Absolutely Epic. Bought 75$ tix for 20 on street, sat in box on 'roof' seats, great crowd, great field, fun game. Need a 45k SSS in Boston.
Agreed, fun game. 1st half wasn't all that great, but they saved all the action for the 2nd half. A lot of fun, and I was pleased to hear on the DA show that a lot of casual fans had fun too. That being said, I had a friend of mine (huge Sporting fan) who was at the game text me and ask me if I was into the Revs. I told him that I was a season ticket holder, and he asked me when the season started. Even with the ramp up of marketing efforts, it still sounds to me like we're not reaching out well enough to the potential/casual fans.
I had a blast watching a tournament just as meaningless and silly as SuperLiga. It was pretty awesome to walk to game, go to a bar before a game, and be home in 10 minutes. I hope Krafty Bob was watching last night because a stadium in town is more important than any roster moves to the growth of the team. I went to a soccer game in BOSTON.
Well done and congratulations! Dear Bob - This. It was 2 for 1 appetizer night at Tastings Wine Bar and Bistro. Do they even have a TV?
I was flipping back and fourth between games. Fenway looked like an old English style stadium. I was awsome to see that turnout
32,162 was the announced attendance. I'm not sure if seating arrangements changed because of the dimensions, but it did seem like there were empty seats here and there.
Still a very respectable number at $45(?) a pop on a Wednesday night. I'd guess the attendance is probably 12-15k at Gilette for these same two teams. Hopefully some of those 33k urbanites come back when Kraft is done measuring and has finally made his urban stadium-sized cut.
