Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? I post here about once every three years but I figure this is as good as an occasion as any. In recent days there's been speculation that RBNY or NYRB or Energy Drink New Jersey or Crimson Steer Hudson River or whatever the hell you want to call them were going after Rafael Marquez. Tonight ESPN Deportes reports that Marquez and the club may be in negotiations for him to become their third DP. Link: http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/news/story?id=1062471&s=futbol/mls&type=story Headline: Márquez negociará con Red Bulls Anybody that can translate Spanish to English better than I can feel free to take a stab at the article since Babelfish just seems like the lazy way out and I only know basic Spanish. It would be a pretty great signing if it happens. He'd fill a major weakness for RBNY, and as an added plus the league gets another villain. You can never really have enough of those. Flying headbutts may soon be coming to a stadium near you.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? Univision is reporting the same thing. This would be outstanding. He's only 31.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? And 31 isn't bad in this case as CBs and DMs have a longer shelf life than players in other positions.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? I know. Hell of a lot of quality there. Big part of the reason that France had such a shitty World Cup. In all truthiness, I would prefer to see Riquelme for the offensive fireworks that he could create with Henry and JPA. But this is very exciting.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? What kind of cap room do they have? Certainly this year, as a prorated DP, they'd be ok, but presumably they'd have to tear their squad apart next year (or expect Angel to retire or leave) in order to fit him. As it stands, its just rumor.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? Not exactly the most trusted name in news, but... http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/soccerblog/report_rafa_marquez_to_red_bulls_8Vr5yA1Y60IzMmNMorPwYJ However, their primary source is ESPN Deportes.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? This is what I don't get (besides the "Mexican Mets" Google translation from that ESPND article): Is this suggesting that Marquez can, himself, significantly reduce his transfer fee if he can negotiate his own transfer?
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? If the transfer fee being reported is acurate (€8 million) then they should have gone for Ronaldinho instead. New York needs a midfielder to start the attack and hold the ball. If anyone saw Ronaldinho in the friendlies against Montreal and Chicago, you can see that he would provide great service for Henry and would attract more interest. Yes, €10 million is a lot, but in my opinion, €8 million is a lot for a player in a position that Hans Backe says that he wasn't originally looking for.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? A player can pay his own transfer fee if he wants to. Look at Nery Castillo paying a lot of the loan fee when he went to Man City.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? I know players can hand over their percentage of share in tranfer fees, but ~$9 million would be hard to swallow for a player or an MLS club (granted, Red Bull is loaded) but the league has a precedent in policy towards incoming transfer fees.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? I hate to base my comment on a simple rumor but I have a big feeling that Ronaldinho to the Galaxy is a done deal or very close it.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? Well, Barca is actually in better position to demand a higher transfer fee for Marquez than Milan is to demand a high transfer fee for Ronaldinho. I mean yeh, Ronaldinho would be a huge get for this league, but presuming Ronaldinho wants to come to MLS, MLS and Dinho could sign for next year and just wait for his contract to expire, and Milan is out any transfer fee. Given what the name Ronaldinho means in the world of football, there'll still be plenty of bang left when he arrives next year. MLS would have to wait two years to do the same to get Marquez, and it might not be as exciting two years down the line. So, while Milan's asking ten million for Dinho, MLS can whittle that down a quite a bit, but not so much with Marquez.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? I would be surprised. There are no serious reports of this at all. If they are making it happen, they are doing an insanely good job keeping it under wraps. I would love to see it, I just can't see it happening this year. Would love to be wrong though.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? A potential move out of Europe seems to be suggested, indeed, for next summer rather than this year by Ronaldinho's brother--Galaxy being one of the options of course.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? weaaaaak!! He should go to Juventus. He still gots a few years for euro competition.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? Remember that RBNY can pay those DP contracts down next year with allocation money. No one really knows how much they have left after selling Josy for 10mil but I'm sure it's a lot.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? Here's the thing. I am confident that some negotiation involving the LA Galaxy is taking place. Also, I am confident that some negotiation with Milan is taking place. Those two facts means that we should not trust any public comment from anyone involved. Sports agents would be in the CIA's disinformation/psi-ops division if there were no professional sports. Their public postures should be seen as disinformation to put pressure on any party they are negotiating with. The same goes for Milan's public statements. In the very least Milan is in negotiation with Ronaldinho. They may also be in negotiation with the LA Galaxy, or any other club, for a transfer deal. Any statement they make publicly should also be seen as disinformation to manipulate the parties they are involved with. A statement by Milan saying they want ten million euros for Ronaldinho may be a means of manipulating a suitor into thinking they are actively interested in keeping Ronaldinho on their club or it may mean that they are attempting to make a negotiating partner believe there are other suitors willing to pay that amount; it could also mean that both of the above are true. Ronaldinho's brother/agent could be mentioning a possible move to LA next year as means of getting Milan to make a firm commitment in a longer term contract, lay their cards on the table, so to speak, or it could be a means of getting LA to step up their offer to assure a transfer this year, or it could be a means of putting pressure on Milan to come down on their transfer fee (given a move next year would mean they make zero). And on and on and on. Public statements by parties in negotiation can never be taken seriously. So, who do we believe? How about the folks saying absolutely nothing: The LA Galaxy. But then, since the Galaxy have said absolutely nothing, we have nothing to go by. Except one thing: the Galaxy have made no attempt to deny anything about Ronaldinho. There are two possibilities: they like getting their name in the press, and really have nothing to add, or they have a superior bargaining position, and need say nothing to get what they want. My conclusion: the LA Galaxy really are negotiating to get Ronaldinho to come to the Galaxy, and not next year, but this year. Milan is posturing. Ronaldinho's brother is posturing. What I have no idea of is this: is anything the Galaxy doing in regards to their negotiations with Ronaldinho and Milan being taken seriously by the parties involved, or are they merely being used as pawns to help Ronaldinho keep his high salary with Milan?
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? Will MLS pony up & pay for Marquez & Dinho's transfer fees?
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? Mark Abbott said a few months back that a transfer fee could be rolled up into a DP signing. Effectively he said that the overall monetary outlay (fee + salary) is what they would look at when approving a DP signing. If they think that the total monetary outlay for Marquez or Ronaldinho is worth it, then MLS will allow it (supposedly). It would be a big change though since I dint remember a big transfer fee paid since the days if Graziani and Hermosillo.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? I think Ronnie stays in Milan. Why? He is flying there himself to talk with the owners about his future. SOURCE: I forget, read it somewhere yesterday, but it makes me think he is staying put this season.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? Quick question: If you're RBNY, where do you play Marques? Do you show Robinson the door and play Marques as a DM, or do you pair him up with Ream in central defense?
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? i put him actually on the left side of the defense instead of roy miller [who has been decent] ream and mendes are getting some good chemistry going in the central defense jeremy hall if he's not in the midfield can hold off the ride side very well.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? I'd line him up in front of: Borman-Ream-Mendes-Albright The midfield would consist of Lindpere on the left, Tchani playing in the center, in front of Marquez, then Kandji or Sinisa on the right, finally sending Richards to the bench for late game sub duties. He has played d-mid before, so I don't see how it would be a problem.
Re: Rafael Marques to RBNY as their third DP? Sweet, I get to boo Marques in MLS instead of US vs Mexico games. In all seriousness, I really hope this happens.
