hey soccer fans, as the WC draws to a close…my research is coming to an end too but I will definitely stay on this forum for all soccer events! Please would you mind reflecting on some of the next questions, there have been some threads covering similar topics but it would be much appreciated if you could answers these queries too... 1. Has the WC 2010 diminished some of the negative associations you may have had of South Africa before the event? 2. Has the WC 2010 connected you to SA in some way? 3. What images and or characteristics come to mind now, after you have watched the WC, when you think of South Africa as a destination? …as vacation destination? …as a place of residence? …as a place in which to invest? …as a place from which products can be purchased? …as a place to attend an event? …as a place to start up a new business?
Having made that choice myself 8 years ago, it is sad that I would probably come to the same conclusion as you if faced with the same decision today. What has depressed me most about living in S.A. has been the rise in petty crime and the culture of fraud that permeates modern day South African society. 80% of the population here may still be the greatest people on earth but the other 20% sure put a damper on living here. And this cuts across all racial lines! Yet, for those with a little money, South Africa remains alluring. Fantastic private medical insurance Some of the best private and state supported schools in the world Estate living for the price of a bungalow! Did I say, "servants"? Cheap dining out Once out of the cities, the open roads! But for the vast majority the WC was a bust There were no employment spin offs Unaffordable match tickets Higher prices already with more price rises looming to pay for it all But it's Ayoba time!
Here you must have what it takes. This could be a very hard experience with a 50/50 chance of success if you hit on the right idea.
