Marcus Hahnemann has my vote for n ever playing in a world cup game ever. Use players that are not going to have a chance to play again.

There are many Americans playing in Europe than one might think. OK, they are not part of the top leagues in Europe but they are out there.

Need to give some of these guys a shot. I think youth/ambition is sometimes better than experience/talent

So do you mean on the roster or anywhere?

    Anywhere - Ching
    On team - Hahnemann
    Underutilized - Holden/Tores

Stu Holden. Damn shame that he has so much competition in his position because he's an excellent player.

Yep - he stands a chance of being our "guy" in four years depending on how Dempsey holds form as he gets four years older.

I meant never stepped on the field, made the team, or never will step on the field due to age or injury. From any of the US World Cup games.

There are definitely some vaguaries in this question.

    Anywhere--Brad Freidel

Best Player dropped from team--tough one but probably Ching.

Best player on roster not used: yeah, Marcus H, easily.

Best not there due to injury--Jermaine Jones or Davies.

I'm stil not as sure as some people about Holden. I like the guy, he just hasn't had as much of a chance to as the USMNT regulars to prove himself at a high level. His appearances for the US first team have been limited and he didn't get to play much at Bolton. Hopefully he'll have a good near next year.

How about this--what player could have we used that didn't get to play? I guess you'd have to say Charlie Davies. I'd also say we could have used Friedel.

Holden-He has some really good skills good at shooting and creativity.

Should have made the team Rogers over Clark...I said it before the cup.

    Jones and Davies injuries

uhh . . . just because he is the best player to have not played does not mean he was better than the person in front of him (which is why he didn't play).

Guys, Holden played in the World Cup, against England.

Edit: For me, it has to be Brian Ching. Made the roster in '06, didn't play a minute. Was apparently the 24th man this past cycle.

Best U.S. player to never play in a World Cup game is probably Gerry Baker.

    Up in the skyway
As much as we like to shun Jeff Cunningham, the guy sure was a prolific goal scorer wherever he went. He was given his chances for the nats but never showed much, then again, other lesser players have been given far more chances and failed just as hard, if not harder.

Interesting . . . . I like that pick. His problem is breaking in behind Donovan/Dempsey/Torres/Holden/Feilhaber/Bradley
