Thes are nice photos to show... That he was pretty much offside. it is very close. Keep in mind that the rule is not that your body is even with the outstretched foot of the defender (as the line drawn mistakenly has it) but rather that the torsos are even. Here your photo shows that the Italians body is clear inside of the defender's. I could se deefending an onside call as being too close to call therefore to the attacker but as a matter if the rule and geometry this call was correct and consistent with what the linesman have called. They have generally done an astounding job in this cup getting these difficult calls correct

My bad. This is the old interpretation. By the new any playable part of the body rule, he's onside. boy, I missed that change, and I think it's insane.

It is a great shame I missed this match, then again I expected nothing like this. I like Slovakia but they were quite dire before last night and their qualification was not impressive either so I didn't pay any attention to them but my oh my...

Thank you Slovaks, a small nation which has managed to first provide us with Daniela Hantuchova and now the Italy exit, I'm visiting your country in the future :):)

Credit to the Slovaks and to Weiss for dropping his son. He was smart where Lippi was dumb. Cassano didn't make the cut because of personal issues with Lippi's son and it has bitten Marcelo on the butt.

I still think Hamsik isn't at his best. He will need to be at his best if the Slovaks are any chance to beat the Dutch. He did set-up the second goal and created a chance for Stoch.

Italy only came to life in the last 15 minutes. Pirlo and Quagliarella's appearances made the difference. They put passes together and looked more lively. It came too late though.

I hope Italy gets the Group of Death for evey tornament from now own. Every game must be a big game because if you fall asleep, you're going to get hurt.

Not a good thing for italian fans, but, perhaps, a needed shock. :)

We needed a salutary shock to our soccer world. We must prepare a better team in two years, for the European Cup, and a star team in four years, for the WC in Brazil.

We have very good players at disposal simply ignored by Lippi (see Quagliarella, but others come to mind, like Cassano, Ranocchia, Balotelli). Our Soccer League management is often insane and corrupt. I hope we will get rid of that and play again an enjoyable football. :)

Italia had the easier draw IMO and finished dead last. I can't believe it. Well, actually considering that they are Italian, I can!

The question is why did Lippi wait till the last half of the last game to put Quagliarella in? He ended up being the best player on the squad....Che casino!

Italy went home without a single victory.
According to some Italian media, it is the most disgraceful result in 50 years of Italian football in World Cup.

Was anyone else posting here actually at the match?
I was in Section U65 with a small group of Slovakian fans. There was one other recognizable group in the lower corner. Total Slovakia support appeared <1%, Italian support 99%, including all the locals.

Harry Webb and his Crew cost Italy a place in the Second Round. Quags goal was a valid one. He wasn't offside. I realize Italy did not play well in the first round, but that goal would of tied it 3-3, and Italy would of finished 2nd in the Group.

In today's final between Holland-Spain, more of the same B.S. again. The Goal that Iniesta scored was offside, instead, they ruled it as fair. Webb and his gang were very unfair to the dutch, as well as with all the yellow and Red Card.
The guy & his crew should be hung by their ballz. 'nuff said.

Overall, the Officiating in South Africa was absolutely deplorable.

    Sepp Blatter should be shot.

    What a joke.

im not a firm believer in the spanish national team and was with holland wy before the world cup, mainly after my man crush on sneijder began vs italy then coming to inter.... but iniestas goal most certainly was not offside... what the problem was that holland should have had a corner which would have forced more spanish back and then changing the possible attack of the spanish. then the thousands of dives by iniesta made gilardinos dive with milan vs celtic bearable to watch, since people speak so highly of pretty much any other team than the italians and french, they think "iniesta a cheater... never" well he dove 10x more in one game than the usual italian in about a month.
